Sinagra, 81, Independence FRANK GAYDOS ALBANY - Frank Gaydos, 80, died Friday, June 28, 2002, at his residence. He was a member of the U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a member of the American Legion Post 0258 and Amvets Post 8. Survivors include his wife, Mary Nemeth Gaydos of Albany; two daughters, Janie Rottmann and Dianne Lavigne, both of Ponchatoula; a son, Frank P. Gaydos of Hammond; a sister, Julia Prokop of Albany; 10 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. A brother, Joe Gaydos, and a sister, Elizabeth Gaydos Laird preceded him in death as did one grandchild. The Rev. Donations may be made to North Oaks Hospice Foundation. BILLIE JAMES GRAVES HOUSTON - Billie James Graves, 63, died Saturday, June 29, 2002, at his residence after a brief battle with colon cancer. He was a native of Smackover, Ark., served in the U.S. Air Force from 1961 to 1965 and retired from IBM after 27 years. Survivors include his wife, Ursla Dianne Davies; two sons, Steven, Christopher; one half-brother, Charles French; two half-sisters, Elizabeth Widener and Melissa Patrick; and seven grandchildren. His parents, Robert Lee Graves and Ola Irene "Peggy" Landrum, preceded him in death as did his stepfather, William Hanson French; a half-brother, Rickey French; and his oldest son, Billie James Graves II. She was a native of Lafayette and resident of Montpelier. Survivors include her mother, Annie Willie Hoosier of Montpelier, and two brothers, Robert and Patrick Hoosier. KATHERINE RUBY ABELS FAYARD SPRINGFIELD - Katherine Ruby Abels Fayard, an 89-year-old retired school teacher, died Monday, July 1, 2002. She had taught social studies focusing on American history for 35 years in Livingston Parish school systems. Also, she is remembered for her volunteer work as a 4-H Club Leader Springfield High School. Through her efforts and guidance, the club won many parish, district and state awards. She graduated from Springfield High School and Southeastern Louisiana College and was a member of Springfield Methodist Church and of the Retired Teacher's Association of Louisiana. Survivors include her son, Calvin C. Fayard Jr. of Denham Springs; two brothers, Charles A. "Bubbie" Abels of Baton Rouge and Springfield and Harold Abels of Springfield; a sister, Lillian Abels Maurin of Hammond; and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Calvin C. She attended Vanderbilt University and graduated from nursing school at Brackenridge Hospital School of Nursing in Austin, Texas. She retired with the state of Louisiana as nurse surveyor of certification and licensing. She served in the U.S. Army as second lieutenant at the Station Hospital, Camp Walter, Texas. She was also a former member of the Eastern Star and past president of the American Legion Auxiliary. She was the first member of First United Methodist Church. She is survived by three nieces and one nephew. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Hugh H. O'Neill; and her second husband, Percy L. Kemp.
