He was born in New Orleans, attended Newman High School, graduated from Louisiana State University earning a bachelor of science degree in agriculture, served the U.S. Air Force as a pilot and then as a captain in the U.S. Air Force Reserves. He also served as president of the Hammond Chamber of Commerce; served on the board of the Florida Parishes Homestead Bank; served on the Southeastern Louisiana University's President's Advisory Council; and served as president of the first Tangipahoa Parish Chamber of Commerce. He developed the Town and Country Shopping Center, was the owner and founder of Dixie Motors and a member of the First United Methodist Church where she served on the church board.
