He was a member and past president of the Hammond Kiwanis Club, member, 4th degree, and past grand knight with the Knights of Columbus, John F. Kennedy Council, a 1939 graduate of Southwestern University, attended Loyola University and was a 1942 graduate with a masters degree from Louisiana State University. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, was appointed chaplain's assistant and served Mass at St. Peter's in Rome. He served on the first Holy Ghost Catholic Church school board and was elected representative to the Lay Congress of the Baton Rouge Diocese. He received his doctorate degree from LSU and taught at Oklahoma A&M, LSU and Southeastern Louisiana University from 1949 until retirement where he served as professor, department head and vice president.
