He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a retired pipefitter. He is survived by two daughters, Beverly Barringer of Ponchatoula and Betty Jean Robertson of Worchester, Mass.; his former wife, Pollie T. Baham of Ponchatoula; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Louise Lee Baham; his parents, Marion and Verna Calmes Baham; two brothers, Milton and Claude Baham; and one sister, Marian "Dudi" Culotta. She was a member and clerk of Bolivar Baptist Church, a past matron of Ira Chapter 84 Order of Eastern Star, a grand representative of Nova Scotia, a member of Ladies Auxiliary Scottish Rite Consistory and a Daughter of Oasis, Baton Rouge. She is survived by her husband, Houston L. Brown of Bolivar; two daughters, Rhonda Brown and Ellen Waskom, both of Stoney Point; one son, Mack Brown of Sunny Hill; one sister, Lucille Williams of Bolivar; and five grandchildren. He was a native of Houston, Miss., and a retired minister of the Louisiana Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church. He ministered in the Ponchatoula area and also at the Hammond United Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife, Elsie Sensintaffar Cain; two daughters, Evelyn Cain Alford of Baton Rouge, and the Rev. Barbara Cain Einsel of Zachary; four grandchildren and four great- grandchildren. Cefalu, 96, Amite * Sam Joseph Relan, 40, Amite * Judith Gill Spratt, 46, Ponchatoula DR. CHARLES D. ALFORD JR. Dr. Charles D. Alford, 79, died Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2001, at North Oaks Medical Center, Hammond. He was a native of Hammond. He was honored at the annual meeting of the Louisiana State Medical Society in Baton Rouge on Oct. 19 at the Radisson Hotel. He received his doctorate of medicine degree 50 years ago as a member of the Louisiana State University Medical School class of 1951 and was honored with special recognition for outstanding achievement. He retired in 1993 from his practice in Hammond. He graduated from Louisiana School of Medicine, did his internship and residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Charity Hospital in New Orleans where he was chief resident for two years. He was a diplomat of the American Board of OB/GYN, fellow of the American College of Surgeons and fellow of the American College of OB/GYN. He has had many papers published in prominent medical journals and conducted a lot of research in specialties within his field of medicine. He served in the U.S. Army from 1943 to 1946 during World War II and was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Hammond. He is survived by his wife, Margaret Waldrop Alford of Hammond; two daughters, Anne Elizabeth Alford Flippin of Jackson, Miss., and Margaret Suzanne Alford Loomis of Dallas; one sister, Ruth Marion Alford of Baton Rouge; and three grandchildren. Palmintier Sr., 79, died Sunday, Nov. 4, 2001, at his home after an extended illness. He was a native of Hammond, served as captain in the U.S. Army Medical Corps from 1947-1950, was a graduate of Louisiana State University School of Medicine and interned at Charity Hospital in New Orleans in 1946, did his surgery residency at LSU - New Orleans and Lafayette Charity Hospital. He was a longtime parishioner at Our Lady Of Fatima Catholic Church. He was a prominent surgeon for more than 50 years with numerous accomplishments, held many positions and was a member of several professional and civic organizations. He is survived by his wife, Betty Brownsberger Palmintier; one daughter, Patricia P. Pritchard; five sons, Jon Stephen Palmintier, Michael C. Palmintier, David J. Palmintier and James P. Armada Butler, 79, the pastor of Nazareth Baptist Church in Woodhaven, died Thursday, Nov. 8, 2001, at North Oaks Medical Center, Hammond. A native of White Castle and resident of Ponchatoula, he was a World War II veteran and a retired maintenance worker at North Oaks Medical Center, having worked in various jobs there. Instrumental in religious, civic and educational advancements for black residents of this community, he was one of the original members of the Tangipahoa Parish Voters League and helped to gain voting rights and equal educational and employment opportunities for black citizens. He ran an upholstery shop while attending seminary to receive a doctor of theology. Though in-active in recent years due to his failing health, he had been a member of Amite River Progressive Christian Association, the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 46, the Oak Grove Lodge 117 Prince Hall Masons Knights Templar.
