Mrs. Richardson died last Friday. She was a resident of Springfield for 60 years. She was the widow of Isaac S. Richardson, a pioneer of Livingston parish. She is survived by three sons, Murphy E. and L. A. of Baton Rouge and Philip of Springfield; six daughters, Mrs. Henry Tycer of Holden, Mrs. Fanancy Anzalone of Independence, Miss Esther Richardson of Springfield, Mrs. Clyde V. Dowing, Jr. of Baton Rouge, Mrs. Cullen Kennedy and Mrs. John McKigney of Springfield; three step-daughters, Mrs. Ernest Bankston of Holden, Mrs. Harry Kennedy, Mrs. Strickland Bankston of Springfield; two brothers, John Wall of Gonzales and Kemp Wall of New Orleans; two sisters, Mrs. Lawrence Yates of Gonzales, and Mrs. Charles Holden of Holden; 18 grandchildren. 3 Jan 1947; Sec. 1, p. 1: Services were held last Friday for Joseph A. Richard [pictured], popular Hammond resident; interment was in Greenlawn cemetery. He is survived by his widow and many other relatives. 3 Jan 1947; Sec. 1, p. 1: Ado Smithe, 68, was killed by a train Saturday, near Albany. He was a native of Kokomo, Miss. and came here only a short time ago from Kokomo. Funeral services were held Sunday with interment at Albany. Surviving relatives include a son, a daughter and several grandchildren. 10 Jan 1947; Sec. 1, p. 1: Commander Marcello Zweck, USMS, 58, died last Thursday in Balboa, Canal Zone. Services were held yesterday at Holy Ghost Catholic church; interment was at Albany. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Lea Dell Zweck. One son, Sgt. Wm. A. Zweck, was killed in action during World War II. He was a native of Trieste, Italy. 10 Jan 1947; Sec. 1, p. 1: Oscar F. Donaldson, 65, died Wednesday at his family residence; the same place he was born 24 November 1882. Funeral will be today with interment in Greenlawn cemetery. His surviving relatives include his widow, the former Gladys Reid of Battle Creek, Mich.; three sons, Reid of Detroit, Oscar, Jr. of Muskegon, Mich. and Franklin Donaldson of Hammond; two brothers, Bob Donaldson of Hammond and Eric Donaldson of Baton Rouge; one sister, Mrs. Charles Tycer of Independence. Smith, 61, died last Friday at the family home. Funeral services were held Saturday at the Thomas Funeral Home; interment was in Greenlawn cemetery in Hammond. His surviving relatives include his widow; a son, Billy; a daughter, Mrs. Richard F. Gates of Long Beach, Miss.; and his aged father, Wells B. Smith. 10 Jan 1947; Sec. 1, p. 2: Mrs. Mary Morgan Starns, 77, widow of Harris Theodore Starns, passed away Sunday in Hammond. Funeral services were held Tuesday at First Baptist church; interment was in the Amite cemetery. Mr. Starns died about 14 years ago. Her surviving relatives include three sons, Joe Starns, Robert Ellis Starns and Edward Starns, all of Hammond; four daughters, Mrs. Hollis Butler of Hammond, Mrs. Leonard Schlaudecker of Baton Rouge, Mrs. William Bennett of Amite, Mrs. John Christy of Denham Springs; one brother, J. E. Morgan of Hammond; two sisters, Mrs. Annie M. Vining and Mrs. Ruth Jean of Baton Rouge. 10 Jan 1947; Sec. 1, p. 5: Alfred Raleigh Lewis, 50, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Alfred R. Lewis, died at his Burbank, Calif. home 4 December 1946. He is the brother of the late F. J. Lewis of Hammond. He was born in Amite and moved his family to Burbank in 1931. His surviving relatives include his widow, the former Lorene Featherstone of Shreveport and Los Angeles, Calif.; a daughter, Joanne and a son, Donald Randolph both of Burbank. John H. Lewis, USN, of Louisville, Ky. 10 Jan 1947; Sec. 2, p. 1: Gabriel P. Skeahan, 45, son of Mrs. Purny Burns and the late Thomas Henry Skeaham, died last Saturday at his Crescent home. He was a native of Brookhaven, Miss. and a resident of New Orleans for the past 24 years. Funeral services were held in New Orleans on Sunday; interment was in the Garden of Memories there. His surviving relatives include his widow, the former Mary Lee Taylor; two sisters, Mrs. P. Castleberry of Baton Rouge and Mrs. Lillian O'Conner of Hammond; two brothers, Walter R. Skeahan of Phoenix, Ariz. and T. A. Skeahan of Itta Bena, Miss. He was also a brother of the late Charles H. Skeaham of Clarksdale, Miss. 10 Jan 1947; Sec. 2, p. 1: Port Sulphur, La., January 1 - R. M. Stilley, 45, a resident of Port Sulphur for 13 years, died Wednesday. He was a native of Angleton, Texas. Funeral services were held Thursday at Port Sulphur and the body was sent to Angleton, Tex. for burial. He is survived by his widow, the former Jeannie Keffier; one daughter, Bobbie Jean; his mother, Mrs. R. P. Stilley of Hammond; one brother, E. B. Stilley of Port Sulphur; four sisters, Mrs. F. P. Payne of Jackson, La. 10 Jan 1047; Sec. 2, p. 1: Mrs. Sarah Anthony Jones died 18 December 1946. She was born 4 December 1898 in St. Tammany parish. She was a resident of Tickfaw for 16 years. Funeral services were held at the Little River church and interment was in the Little River cemetery. Her survivors include her father, Adolph Anthony; her husband, Morris Jones; nine children, Louis, Willie, Allen, Raymond, Shirley and Lucille Jones of Tickfaw, John R. Jones of Hillsdale, Mrs. Levi Sullivan of Lake Charles, and Mrs. Nettie Pugh of Center, Tex.; three brothers, James Anthony of Amite, Sidney Anthony of Roseland and Clarence Anthony of Tickfaw.; three sisters, Mrs. Leona Cutrer of Amite, Mrs. Margaret Anthony of Amite and Mrs. Thomas Anthony of Independence; two half-brothers and one half-sister; nine grand- children. 17 Jan 1947; Sec. 1, p. 1: Funeral services for John Frederick Barnfus, who succumbed Monday at his home, were held Wednesday; interment was in Greenlawn cemetery at Hammond. He was born in Clinton, Iowa 22 December 1872; was a resident of Hammond since 1918. He married 30 March 1903 to Elizabeth Scott of Chicago and to this union were born two children: Mrs. B. B. Henry of Hawkins, Texas and Gordon Frederick Barnfus of Hammond. He is also survived by two sisters, Mrs. A. J. Pagle of Tama, Iowa and Mrs. Carsten Peterson of Canova, S.D.; one granddaughter, Britta Henry; one nephew, Lynn Barnfus of New Orleans. 17 Jan 1947, Sec. 1, p. 1: George W. Sears, who would have been 80 on 23 January, died Monday in Hammond. Funeeral services were held Tuesday; interment was in Greenlawn cemetery at Hammond. His family has lived in Hammond more than 25 years. Surviving relatives include his widow; one daughter, Mrs. Clay Threeton of Birmingham, Ala. and one step-son, Clifford Avenious of New Orleans. 17 Jan 1947; Sec. 1, p. 2: Funeral services for Percy R. June, who succumbed Tuesday at his home in Baton Rouge, were held Wednesday from the Rabenhorst Funeral Home. He was originally from Hammond; has lived in Baton Rouge many years. His survivors include his widow, the former Ruth Booth; one daughter, Ruth Marian; one sister, Mrs. A. A. Bonney; one brother, Clarence June of Jennings. 17 Jan 1947; Sec. 1, p. 2: Stephen Louis Himel, infant son of Mr. and Mrs. H. D. Himel, Jr., died Sunday in Tylertown, Miss. He was born last Thursday in Tylertown. Funeral services were held in Tylertown. Mrs. Himel is the former Miss Pat Ginn of Tylertown. 24 Jan 1947; Sec. 1, p. 1: Jack C. Faust, died last Tuesday in a New Orleans hospital. He was a 25 year employee of this newspaper. Funeral services were held Thursday at the Thomas Funeral Home; interment was in Greenlawn cemeter at Hammond. He was a native of Lafayette, Tenn.; a World War I veteran. His surviving relatives include his widow, the former Lucille Stevens and many distant relatives. Fred Faust, an older brother, died last week in the old home, near Nashville. A half-brother, Carl L. Faust, is a business executive in Jackson, Miss. 24 Jan 1947; Sec. 1, p. 1: James Snell Hunter, of Hammond, died last Saturday at his home. Funeral services were held Monday; interment was in Greenlawn cemetery. He was 86 years and 11 months old. He married the former Katherine Ray of Ponchatoula 52 years ago. His surviving relatives include his widow; a sister, Mrs. Vern Longaker of Brookline, Mass., who now is in Clearwater, Fla.; one granddaughter, Mrs. Oby LaGarde of New Orleans; two grandsons, Hunter Brecheen of Wichita Falls, Tex. and Joel Breecheen of Calif. A daughter, Lucretia Hunter Chatelain, preceded him in death. 24 Jan 1947; Sec. 1, p. 1: In Memoriam - Mrs. Sarah A. Jones - afflicted for 20 years - by daughter-in-law, Emily Benton Jones. 31 Jan 1947; Sec. 1, p. 3: Hance Wilson, former Illinois Central agent of Tickfaw and Independence, died at Hattiesburg, Miss. last Thursday. Funeral services were Friday in Hattiesburg, where they moved only a short time ago. His twin brother, Hamp Wilson, was also employed here for some time. 7 Feb 1947; Sec. 1, p. 1: Mrs. Chas. Rice, oldest sister of Mrs. W. E. White, passed away last week. Services will be tody in Los Angeles, Calif.; interment will be in Forest Lawn cemetery there. 7 Feb 1947; Sec. 1, p. 1: Mrs. Clarence B. O'Bryan, 34, died in New Orleans Monday. The O'Bryans lived in Hammond 10 years and moved to New Orleans about 1 1/2 years ago. She is survived by her husband; one son, C. B. O'Bryan, Jr.; two daughters, JoAnn and Barbara; parents, Mr. and Mrs. Leon Bourge; four brothers and 3 sisters. 7 Feb 1947; Sec. 1, p. 2: John "Honest John" Seamster, 73, died at his Rogers, Ark. home Thursday. Services were held Thursday in Rogers. 7 Feb 1947; Sec. 1, p. 3: Eldred O'Neill, 32, son of C. E. O'Neill of Hammond, passed away Thursday in New Orleans. Funeral services were held Thursday in New Orleans. Survivors include his widow; father; eight brothers and 6 sisters. 7 Feb 1947; Sec. 1, p. 3: Karl Sidney Cannon, 5 year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Percy Cannon, succumbed Wednesday from a heart attack. Funeral services were Thursday; interment was in Greenlawn cemetery at Hammond. He is survived by his parents; two brothers, Donald and Richard; five sisters, Peggy, Mary Elizabeth, Faye Alice, Barbara Ann and Frances Cannon. 7 Feb 1947; Sec. 3, p. 6: John Greco, 76, a native of Italy and resident of the U.S. for 50 years, died January 26th. Funeral services were held January 28th with interment in Tickfaw cemetery. His surviving relatives include four sons, Joe and Anthony of Tickfaw, Attorney Cyrus Greco of Baton Rouge, and Norman Greco of New Orleans; five daughters, Mrs. Sam Pigno, Misses Mary and Carmelin of Tickfaw, Misses Jennie and Corrine of New Orleans; one brother, Joseph Greco of Lodi, N.Y.; six grand- children. Brown Funeral Home was in charge of funeral and burial arrangements. 14 Feb 1947; Sec. 1, p. 1: William Booth Vaugh, of Magnolia, Miss., passed away Friday in a Jackson, Miss. hospital. Funeral services were held Sunday in Magnolia. Besides his widow, he is survived by four daughters, one being Mrs. D. Loach Thames of Hammond; three sisters and one brother. 14 Feb 1947; Sec. 1, p. 1: Edward Charles Strader, 84, passed away Sunday in Hammond. He was a life long resident of Ponchatoula, where his parents, Peter Strader from Alsace, France and his wife, Frances Franks from Belgium, were earliest settlers. He married Catherine Walz 10 January 1885 and to this union five children were born; two sons, Bernard Strader of Bridgeport, Conn. and David of Hammond survive. Also surviving are six grandchildren and a sister, Mrs. J. C. McPeake of New Orleans. He was laid to rest in the family plot in Wetmore cemetery at Ponchatoula. 14 Feb 1947; Sec. 1, p. 1: Mrs. Charles Bottolfs, 77, succumbed at Thames Clinic. Funeral services were held Wednesday; interment was in Greenlawn cemetery at Hammond. She was a resident of Hammond for 40 years. She leaves one son, Carl Bottolfs of Hammond; five daughters, Mrs. Gordon Whitley, Mrs. Wallace Blomquist and Miss Mena Bottolfs of Hammond, Mrs. Carrie B. Threeton of Geneva, Ala. and Mrs. Prescott Burch of Panama City, Fla.; two sisters, Mrs. Ann Lavigne of Ponchatoula and Mrs. Alphonse Bankston of Holden; one brother, Charles King of Albany. 14 Feb 1947; Sec. 1, p. 1: Joe Brocato, 70, passed away Wednesday at the home of his son Vincent. Funeral services were held Thursday at Holy Ghost Catholic church; interment was in Greenlawn cemetery at Hammond. He was a native of Italy; came to the U.S. at age 13; lived in Hammond 37 years. His wife, Anna Spina Brocato preceded him in death 17 years ago. His surviving relatives include two sons, Vincent and Tommie of Hammond; four daughters, Mrs. Martin Genovese of Independence, Mrs. Neal Toups of Baton Rouge, Mrs. Joe Palmintier and Mrs. Jos. Celecia of New Orleans; six grandchildren and one great, grandchild. 14 Feb 1947; Sec. 1, p. 3: Mr. George Joseph Wagner died in Hammond Wednesday. Funeral services will be held today with interment to be in Wetmore cemtery at Ponchatoula. 14 Feb 1947; Sec. 2, p. 1: Duncan Robertson died suddenly last Thursday. Funeral services were held Saturday; interment was in Robertson cemetery, just to the rear of his farm. He was born 5 July 1876. He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Mrs. Corb Robertson and Mrs. Earl Tucker; three sons, Holden, Peter and Barney; one sister, Mrs. Ione Robertson. His widow, the former Annie Johnson Robertson, had six children by her former husband; one daughter, Mrs. Juel Brewer, lives in Hammond. 21 Feb 1947; Sec. 1, p. 3: Alfred "Red" Husser, of Husser, was accidently killed Wednesday, west of Amite, while loading logs. Funeral services will be today in Husser. He is survived by his widow, the former Lucille Clark; one daughter; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Willie Husser; two brothers, Irving and Billy; two sisters, Miss Mathilda Husser and Mrs. Tom Smith. [From the 28 Feb edition, Sec. 2, p. 2 - Althes T. "Red" Husser, 25, was killed Feb. 19th. Services were held on the 21st at Catholic Chapel in Husser; interment was in adjoining cemetery. His daughter is, Brenda, age 2; his brothers are Ervin and Wilson; one of the sisters is Miss Hilda Husser. The "Loranger News" column also identifies him as Althes Husser.] 21 Feb 1947; Sec. 2, p. 1: Funeral services for Benjamin S. Gallup, who died in Cedar Rapids, Iowa on February 5th, were held there on February 7th. He was born in St. Charles, Minn. and moved to Hammond in 1888. On May 25, 1898 he married Miss Marie F. Schneider. They resided many years in Hammond. Mrs. Gallup is a sister of the late Mrs. H. W. Robinson of Hammond. 28 Feb 1947; Sec. 1, p. 1: John G. "Jack" Neelis of Gueydan died Wednesday at Crowley. His remains were brought to Hammond on Thursday for burial in Grace Memorial cemetery. His surviving relatives include his widow; three sisters, Mrs. E. P. Oatis, Mrs. W. E. Lawson and Mrs. Jos. C. Chase of New Orleans. 28 Feb 1947; Sec. 1, p. 1: Chapin A. Saint, Sr., 88, died at the family home Friday of last week. Funeral services were held Saturday with interment in Greenlawn cemetery at Hammond. He was a resident of Hammond more than 40 years; came from Sunset and operated a business with his brother, the late Howard Saint. The surviving relatives include three daughters, Mrs. Furman B. Pearce, Mrs. W. L. Watts, and Miss Mary B. Saint; three sons, James of Hammond, Chapin Saint, Jr. of Franklinton, and John D. Saint of New Orleans; two brothers, Judge Percy Saint of New Orleans, who was former Attorney General of Louisiana, and Charles Saint of Long Beach, Miss. His wife passed away about four years ago. He was born in Suggsville, Ala., a son of the late Dr. John D. Saint of Franklin. 28 Feb 1947; Sec. 1, p. 1: Nicholas Hebestriet "Nick" FitzSimons, 61, died Monday. Funeral services were held Tuesday; interment was in Wetmore cemetery in Ponchatoula. He came to Hammond about 25 years ago from Covington. He is survived by his widow, the former Gretchen Muller; three sisters, Mrs. Charles H. Sheffield, Mrs. L. A. Stanga and Christine H. FitzSimons, all of Covington; one brother, Francis FitzSimond, also of Covington. 28 Feb 1947; Sec. 2, p. 4: Mrs. Anna Fuller Miller, 69, widow of Charles Henry Miller, died last Thursday, at her home in New Orleans. Survices were held there Friday and the remains were taken to Fredonia, N.Y. for burial. They were former residents of Hammond. She was the daughter of Homer Fuller, native of St. Johnsbury, Vt. Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. William Herrick Merriman, Jr. and Mrs. Margaret Miller Costley, both of New Orleans; one brother, Henry J. Fuller of New York; four grandchildren. 28 Feb 1947; Sec. 2, p. 5: Funeral services for Murray Pierce [pictured], were held last Sunday at Spring Creek Baptist church. He died in Baton Rouge. He is survived by his widow and several children. 7 Mar 1947; Sec. 1, p. 1: Mrs. Gilbert Bottolf, 68, passed away Tuesday at her home. Funeral services were held Wednesday; interment was in Greenlawn cemetery at Hammond. Her surviving relatives include three sons, Arthur, Sam, and Martin Bottolf; three daughters, Mrs. Elvin Campbell, Mrs. Lawrence Bollin and Miss Esther Bottolf. 7 Mar 1947; Sec. 1, p. 2: Mrs. J. O. Burns, 72, succumbed Wednesday. Funeral services were held Thursday; interment was in Ponchatoula cemetery. She was the former Ella May Davenport of Covington. She was living at the home of her son, Frank Burns, at the time of her death. Besides her husband, she is survived by two sons, Frank D. and James E. of Ponchatoula; one sister, Mrs. Gertrude Tucker of Ponchatoula; one brother, Louis Davenport of Ponchatoula. 7 Mar 1947; Sec. 1, p. 2: Mary Theresa Erdos, infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Erdos, died Sunday in Hammond. She was born February 11th. Funeral services were held Sunday; interment was in Greenlawn cemetery. She is survived by her parents; three sisters and two brothers. 7 Mar 1947; Sec. 1, p. 4: Funeral services for Mrs. Felix Elizabeth Miller, 45, wife of Ben F. Miller, were held last Sunday. She died Saturday at the home of her mother, Mrs. F. J. Needham, whom she had been visiting. Reverend and Mrs. Miller recently moved to Montgomery. Besides her husband and mother, she is survived by three sisters, Mrs. M. D. Rudolph, Mrs. Ivison McKinney and Miss Lula Needham; three brothers, Henry, John and Robert Needham. 14 Mar 1947; Sec. 1, p. 1: Rev. Dr. Clifton Macon, 78, former rector of Grace Memorial died Monday in Daytona, Fla. where he was spending winter months. He was a native of Orange County, Va. Survived by his wife, Mrs. Janet Bruce Macon, and a daughter, Mrs. Kenneth Campbell. 14 Mar 1947; Sec. 1, p. 3: Funeral services for John A. Bencaz, 59, of Livingston parish, were held Saturday at Beth Island Catholic church. Interment was in the cemetery at Maurepas, his home. He died Thursday at home. Surviving relatives include his widow; four sons, L. B. of Doyle, O. G. of New Orleans, L. Bencaz and John A. Bencaz, Jr. of Maurepas; three daughters, Mrs. J. J. Killeen of New Orleans, Mrs. W. W. Funeral services were held Sunday with burial at the Arcola-Roseland cemetery. She was a resident of Hammond more than 30 years prior to moving to Mobile. She is survived by one son, Sam Hatton of New Orleans; two daughters, Mrs. Truman French of Natchez, Miss. and Miss Nell Hatton of Mobile. 14 Mar 1947; Sec. 1, p. 5: Mrs. B. Clair Maxwell died February 28th at her home in Hammond. She was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. N. R. Smith, early settlers, and lived here all her life. She is survived by a sister, Mrs. Tom White; a brother, Clyde Smith, both of Portland, Oregon. Her surviving relatives include one daughter, Miss Polly Ann David of Hammond; three sons, Charles of Hammond, James of Montgomery, Ala. and William of Eutaw, Ala.; two sisters, Mrs. Felix Couturie of Bay St. Louis, Miss. and Mrs. Dennis Parker of Hammond; one granddaughter, Nenette David. 14 Mar 1947; Sec. 2, p. 1: Jesse Lynn Conerly, infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Conerly, died Thursday March 6th, in Columbia, Miss., shortly after his birth. His mother was the former Edna Ruth Stewart. Funeral services were held Saturday from Colonial Funeral Home in Columbia; interment was in Oaklawn cemetery. 14 Mar 1947; Sec. 2, p. 2: Hiram Stevens, 39, died in a New Orleans hospital Thursday. Funeral services will be today in Amite. He is survived by his wife, the former Dolliveve Breeland; one daughter, Carol Jean, 3 1/2 months old; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lee Stevens of Amite; one sister, Mrs. H. B. Mrs. Harris was first married to Joseph Sawyer of Hallville, Tex., who preceded her in death in 1909. One son was born of this union. In September 1914, she married G. W. He was a native of the Pine Grove community in St. Helena parish, and has lived in the Independence area for 45 years. He married the former Miss Louise Herring, who survives; with one daughter, Mrs. George Mashon of Independence, and one granddaughter, Mrs. Delmas Lard and two great, grand- children. He also leaves a number of brothers and sisters which include: Henry Thomas, George and Emmett McLin of Pine Grove and James McLin of Independence; Mrs. Eliza Mack of Walker, Mrs. Lurenda Hodges of Kentwood; Mrs. Annie Fletcher and Miss Effie McLin of Pine Grove, Mrs. Nora Lee of Jackson and Mrs. Josephine Starns of Hammond. 12 Dec 1947; Sec. 1, p. 3: Miss Marie Keim, 44, died Thursday at the Thames clinic. Funeral services were held Friday; interment was in Greenlawn cemetery. She was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Keim. She is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Ronnie F. Landry and Miss Matilda Keim of Hammond; one brother, Carl Keim of Houston, Texas. [Mother ran over her.] Funeral services were Monday with burial in St. Dominic cemetery at Husser. In addition to her parents, she is survived by one brother. 12 Dec 1947; Sec. 3, p. 5: Albany - Mrs. Susie Balint, 87, died November 30th at her home. She was part of the Hungarian Settlement over 49 years. She came to the U.S. 53 years ago. Interment was in the Presbyterian cemetery. She is survived by one son, John, and his family; residents of Albany. 12 Dec 1947; Sec. 3, p. 5: Calogero Masaracchia, 55, a merchant of Independence, died Saturday in Independence. Funeral services were held Monday; interment was in the Colonial cemetery at Independence. He was a native of Sicily and resided in Independence for 18 years. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Antonina S. Massaracchia; three sons, Santo of Independence, John of Chicago and Rico of Hammond. 12 Dec 1947; Sec. 3, p. 5: Gaetano Galafora, 87, a resident of Independence, died Saturday. Funeral rites were conducted Sunday with interment in Colonial cemetery at Independence. He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Ben Mochitta of Hammond and Mrs. Louis Morales of New Orleans. Funeral services were held Tuesday; interment was in the Davidson cemetery at Clio. He was a lifelong resident of Livingston parish. Watts. 19 Dec 1947; Sec. 1, p. 1: Charles D. Watts, 92, died Tuesday in Hammond. Funeral services were held Wednesday at the Doyle Baptist church; interment was in the Colyell cemetery at Frost. He is survived by a large family connection in Livingston parish. 19 Dec 1947; Sec. 1, p. 2: Gus Polites, 52, died Thursday in a New Orleans hospital. He was hit by a car while crossing the street. Funeral services will be Saturday. He owned a restaurant in Hammond since 1920. He was a native of Greece; served in World War I; married his wife in France while there. He is survived by his widow; one daughter, Mrs. Harold Clavier of Hammond; one brother, John of New Orleans; two sisters, Mrs. George Varcitsiotes of Chicago, Ill. and Mrs. J. Johnson of Oneonta, N.Y.; his father, who resides in Greece; one grand- daughter, Madelaine Claver; several nieces, one being Miss Jennie Longson of Chicago. Funeral services were held at Monte Sano Baptist church. He leaves a large family. 26 Dec 1947; Sec. 1, p. 4: Mrs. Bernice B. Peters, 67, died Wednesday, December 17th at her Hammond home. Funeral services were held Friday in Madisonville; interment was in the Madison- ville cemetery. She was the wife of the late Louis Peters; the daughter of the late Byron and Mary Bankston. She was a resident of Hammond for 20 years. She is survived by three sisters, Mrs. Joseph Peters of Madisonville, Mrs. John Ginther and Mrs. E. Bankston of New Orleans. 26 Dec 1947; Sec. 1, p. 4: William W. Ballard, 57, of Chesbrough, succumbed Monday in Independence. He is survived by his wife and one daughter, Miss Louise Ballard of Hammond. 26 Dec 1947; Sec. 2, p. 5: Jack Dulaney Stout, 21, of Cleveland, Miss., a nephew of Mrs. C. E. Morrison, of Baptist, drowned last Friday near Benoit Outing Club, while duck hunting. He was a native of Vicksburg, Miss. and had lived in Cleveland, Miss. for 10 years.
