Blankenbaker of St. Louis, MO. 10 July 1931; p. 1, col. 1: Cleon Blades, 25, of Kentwood, was fatally injured Sunday in Henderson, KY when struck by an auto. 10 July 1931; p. 1, col. 3: Mrs. Laura Dean Tynes, 64, wife of Oliver C. Tynes, died in Kentwood 6 July. She was a native of Hermon in Washington parish but has lived in Kentwood since 1904. Survived by husband; three sons and three daughters: T. R. Tynes of Fouke, MS; A. She was daughter of Mrs. Nora McLaughlin Beyer and the late Fred Beyer; born and reared in Baton Rouge; lived in Hammond since her marriage 11 years ago. Survived by husband, Vernet Johnson; her mother; four sons, Vernet C., Milton G., Lloyd W. and George P. Johnson; three sisters, Mrs. J. D. Hughes, Jr. of Hammond, Miss Nora and Miss Julia Beyer of Baton Rouge; four brothers, Fred M. Beyer of Bound Brook, NJ, Bernard Beyer of Fort Sill, OK, Joseph C. Beyer of Fort Benning, GA and Sanders P. Beyer of Baton Rouge. One son, Lyle Joseph Johnson, died at age 2. 24 July 1931, p. 8, col. 5: Juanita Ballard, 6, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Otto Ballard of Springfield was fatally burned by an exploding kerosene can. Benton Lee, 68, of Kentwood was killed Monday when struck by a train in Hammond. He was father of Mrs. Frank Hinckley of Hammond. Survived by widow; a son and two daughters. Burial was in Kentwood Tuesday. H. Campbell, 86, of Amite, was buried 19 Aug in the Amite Cemetery. A native of Germany; came to U.S. before age 10; came to Amite in 1864. She was married three times. Burial was in Greenwood, MS. 8 Jan 1932; p. 1, col. 1: Francis Otway Denny, Attorney, died Thursday in Hammond of carbon monoxide gas. His father was one of the pioneer sugar men of Louisiana; the family lived in New Orleans for a number of years. Mr. Denny first practiced law in Ponchatoula, later moving to Hammond. Born in Bayou Goula, LA. Survived by widow, several children and a brother in Shreveport who is also an attorney. Burial Friday 1 Jan. in Metairie Cemetery, Metairie. 15 Jan 1932; p. 5, col. 2: Joseph J. Lautier, 59, died [on or before 11 Jan.] in Amite. Son of late Judge J. J. Lautier; a native of Amite. He was a brother of the late William Desouge. Leaves one daughter, Mrs. Ada Kohnke, wife of Herman Kohnke of Covington; one son, Frank Desouge of Hammond. 12 Feb 1932; p. 9, col. 1: Preston A. White, 73, died at home west of Springfield Thursday. His grandfather, George Washington White, came to Livingston parish and married Miss Melissa Spiller of near Holden. Their only child, George Washington White, Jr., married Miss Elizabeth Kinchen. From this union were born three boys and seven girls. Preston, the second son, was born 1857. Mr. White married Miss Mary A. Glasscock of Livingston parish on 1 Mar 1882. They reared six children; one daughter preceded Preston in death. He was a deputy sheriff for 16 years, and a police juror for 16 years. Interment in Springfield Cemetery Friday. Survived by widow; two sons, N. T. and G. P. White; three daughters, Mrs. W. A. Ellis, Jr. died Monday at Amite. Born in New Orleans; spent large part of her life at Neola, the McCay country home in Amite. She received a law degree from Tulane in 1925; married Robert J. Ellis, Jr. of Amite 5 years ago. Survived by husband; mother, Mrs. Nellie Conner McCay of Amite; one sister, Mrs. John Marshall Page of Baton Rouge; two brothers, Percy L.
