Mr. Blush spent younger days in Hammond, moved to New Orleans 23 years ago where he superintended the construction of Jerusalem Temple. Funeral services were at Hammond Wednesday; interment in Grace Memorial Cemetery. Survivors include his wife; three sons, Robert Harold, Richard Kohake and Elmer Curtis Blush; and one sister, Miss Caddie M. Blush. 6 Jan 1939; p. 2, col. 5: Tim Bryant, 40 years old, Liberty, MS farmer was killed early today when he was struck by a truck on Highway 51 about 2 miles south of Kentwood. The funeral will be held Monday at Liberty followed by interment in Felder cemetery. Bryant is survived by his wife, two children and four brothers, Monroe Bryant of Kentwood, Henry Bryant of Monroe, Althis Bryant of Tylertown, MS and E. L. Bryant of Tangipahoa. 6 Jan 1939; p. 2, col. 2: Sam Monteleone, 36, a WPA worker in Hammond, died in a New Orleans hospital Tuesday night. Funeral services were held yesterday; interment was in Rose Memorial cemetery. Mr. Monteleone is survived by wife; one daughter, Rose Mary; one son, Anthony; father and mother; two brothers, Ben and Anthony Monteleone; five sisters, Mrs. Rosa Bivona of Hammond, Mrs. Mary DiGiovanni of Hammond, Mrs. Lena Tortarich of New Orleans, Mrs. Rosalie Sugar of Chicago Heights and Antionette, also of Chicago. 6 Jan 1939; p. 6, col. 4: Grace Lato, 2 month old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Nat Lato of Hammond, passed away Wednesday morning. Funeral services were held Wednesday; interment was in Rose Memorial cemetery. She is survived by per parents and one brother, Eugene. 13 Jan 1939; p. 1, col. 1: Death last Sunday claimed one of Hammond's pioneer citizens when Mr. Bejamin R. Kemp passed away at his home here. Mr. Kemp was in his 70th year, having been born in February 1868. Funeral services were held Monday; interment was in Greenlawn cemetery. He is survived by his widow, with whom he lived for 43 years; two daughters, Mrs. Emmett Dunnington of Baton Rouge and Mrs. Sidney Wadsworth of Hammond; three sons, C. G. Kemp, Charlie and Percy Kemp, all of Hammond. 13 Jan 1939; p. 5, col. 6: Earl Bowman died last Monday. He was born 2 Mar 1924, died 9 Jan 1939. He is survived by his parents, two sisters and two brothers. 20 Jan 1939; p. 1, col. 5: Mr. Louis Thurner died last Sunday at his home in Hammond. A native of New Orleans, he spent the greater part of his life in Hammond. He was an accountant and bookkeeper. Funeral services were held Tuesday; interment in Greenlawn Cemetery beside the body of his wife who preceded him in death a few years. Survivors include one daughter, Miss Christine Thurner; two sons, Joe Thurner of Memphis and Louis Thurner of Meridian. 20 Jan 1939; p. 3, col. 5: Ignatius "Nat" Mercante, of Hammond, died 14 Jan in New Orleans from complications following surgery for acute appendicitis. He would have been 19 this coming July 11th. Funeral service was Monday in Hammond. 20 Jan 1939; p. 5, col. 1: Funeral services for Mrs. Julia Bates Aydell, 29, of Jefferson parish, who was drowned Saturday night when her automobile plunged through an open bridge span into Pass Manchac on Highway 51, will be conducted today at Kentwood from the home of an aunt, Mrs. Gibby McMillan. Interment will be in Pine Ridge cemetery near Tangipahoa. Survivors include her husband, William N. Aydell; her mother, Mrs. W. N. Bates of Manchac; three brothers, Joseph H. Bates, Jack W. Bates and Jerry Y. Bates all of Manchac; three sisters, Mrs. A. J. Sceroler of Baton Rouge, Mrs. Lear Pitard of Baytown, TX and Mrs. L. H. Middendorf, Jr. of Manchac. 20 Jan 1939; p. 5, col. 1: R. F. Varnado, 47, Illinois Central railway engineer of McComb, died this morning in a Chicago hospital. Mr. Varnado was a native of Tangipahoa parish, LA and born 7 April 1887; had lived in McComb [MS] for the past 27 years. He entered the service of the IC railroad as a locomotive fireman on 1 June 1911 and was promoted to engineer on 15 Sep 1917. Surviving Mr. Varnado are his wife, Mrs. R. F. Varnado of McComb, and one daughter, Mrs. Holly Dunn of Clarksdale; several sisters and brothers, one of whom is Morgan Varnado of McComb. The funeral services will be Wednesday at McComb with interment in Roseland, LA. 27 Jan 1939; p. 1, col. 7: Horace Wilmer Green, a Hammond resident for 35 years, died Wednesday night at home. He was born 7 Nov 1869 at Armour Plantation, St. James Parish, the son of John C. Green and Agnes Moore Green of Bayou La Fourche. He received his early education at military schools in MS and later attended Rockport High School and L. S. U. He married Miss Theresa Haines of Rockport, IN on 20 Dec 1892. After their marriage they resided at Cottage Farm Plantation in Ascension Parish until 1904 when they moved to Hammond. Survivors include his widow; two daughters, Mrs. H. L. Filer of New Haven, CT and Mrs. Riley H. Selby of Hammond; four grandsons, Harry L. Filer, Jr., John Horace Filer, Riley H. Selby, Jr. and Stephen Moore Selby. Funeral services will be this morning [Friday] in Hammond. The remains will be taken to Rockport, IN for interment. 27 Jan 1939; p. 1, col. 7: Tony Mochitta, 79, died Thursday. He lived in Hammond the past 31 years, having come here from his native home in Corleone, Italy. His home is 3 miles northwest of Hammond on highway 51. Funeral services will be this afternoon [Friday]; interment will be in Colonial cemetery at Independence. Survivors include his widow; four sons, Ben, Joe, John and Tommie Mochitto, all of Hammond; four daughters, Mrs. Randozzo of Marrera, Mrs. Macalusa and Mrs. Catenese of New Orleans, and Mrs. Lanzo of Italy; also 17 grandchildren. 3 Feb 1939; p. 2, col. 7: Amite, La., Jan. 30 - Daniel Edwards, 70, died following a long illness. Funeral and burial took place at Stevens cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Ollie Stevens Edwards; five sons, Delma Edwards, George Edwards of Hollywood, CA, Charles Edwards, J. D. Edwards and Leo Edwards of Wilmer; four daughters, Mrs. Dan Sheridan, Mrs. Thomas Worthy of Baton Rouge, Miss Mable Edwards and Hester Edwards of Wilmer; one grandson, Eugene Bryant of Baton Rouge. 3 Feb 1939; p. 4, col. 1: Amite, La., Jan. 26 - Warren Douglas Hendry, Sr., 82, died today at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Wilton Goynes, Roseland. He was president of the police jury in 1907 and later served as treasurer. In 1913 he was elected Tangipahoa parish school board member and in 1919 became president of the board, serving seven years until he resigned in 1925. He has long been a member of the Baptist church of Roseland. Funeral services will be held Friday in Roseland; interment in the Roseland-Arcola cemetery. He is survived by six sons, Elmo Hendry of Arcola, Bennett Hendry of Roseland, L. E. Hendry of McComb, MS, Ivy Hendry of Roseland, Marion H. Hendry of Roseland, W. D. Hendry of Jackson, MS; two daughters, Mrs. C. A. Hyde of Chesbrough, Mrs. Wilton Goynes of Roseland; two brothers, Eugene Hendry of Amite, W. T. Hendry of Marshall, TX; two sisters, Mrs. Lillian Bankston of Baton Rouge and Mrs. Ida Harvey of Jackson, Mich. 10 Feb 1939; p. 1, col. 7: Mr. George A. Fischer, Sr., 64, died Thursday in Ponchatoula at the home of his daughter, Mrs. H. E. Tucker. He was the husband of the late Viola M. Hartiens. Funeral services today [Friday] in Ponchatoula; interment in Ponchatoula cemetery. Survivors include, Mrs. H. E. Tucker and Mrs. A. E. Howes of Ponchatoula; George A. Fischer, Jr. of New Orleans; he was a brother of Mrs. C. Doyle, Mrs. Henry Ulrich and Felix Fischer, all of New Orleans; nine grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. Deceased was a native of New Orleans and a resident of Ponchatoula for the past 20 years. 10 Feb 1939; p. 5, col. 4: Ponchatoula, La., Feb. 3 - Funeral services were held Friday for M. J. Howes, a pioneer settler of Ponchatoula. He was born 30 April 1861 and was in his 78th year. Mr. Howes leaves two sons, Robert M. Howes and Albert E. Howes; one daughter, Miss Emma Howes, all of Ponchatoula; four brothers, Robert, Ed and Louis Howes of Ponchatoula and J. Will Howes of Hammond; two sisters, Misses Lizzie and Annie Howes of Ponchatoula. Interment was in Howes private cemetery. 10 Feb 1939; p. 7, col. 4: Martin Luther George, 74, of Tangipahoa, died Sunday at his home. Funeral services were from his home Monday; interment was in Tangipahoa cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Lillie Ricks George of Tangipahoa; three daughters, Mrs. Addie George Mathis of Hazelhurst, Mrs. Lillian George Hawkins of Tangipahoa and Mrs. Maxine George Neuton of Amite; one brother, J. M. George of Altus, OK. He was an uncle of Mrs. H. C. Lawrence of McComb, MS. 12 Feb 1939; p. 1, col. 5: I. W. Ricks, 73, a Spring Creek farmer, died Tuesday night of a heart attack. A native of Louisiana, he lived most of his life 7 miles east of Kentwood. Funeral services were Wednesday from the Spring Creek church; interment was in Spring Creek cemetery. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Lelia Ricks; one daughter, Mrs. H. S. Bamber of Spring Creek; one brother, Dr. L. Ricks of Independence, the coroner of Tangipahoa parish for the past 8 years; four sisters, Misses Fannie and Rosa Ricks, Mrs. Mollie Gill and Mrs. May Hartley. 17 Feb 1939; p. 1, col. 6: John W. Easley, 67, of McComb, MS, died in Hammond Sunday while visiting his sister-in-law, Mrs. S. B. Hyde. Funeral services were Monday with interment in Amite City cemetery. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Lena Starns Easley; two daughters, Mrs. W. A. Geagan of New Orleans and Mrs. James L. Aydelott of Haniford, CA; one grandson, George Lee Aydelott; his mother, Mrs. H. A. Wing; three brothers, Robert, Herbert and Fred Wing of Liberty, MS; four sisters, Mrs. Andrew Durbin of Hammond, Mrs. Ora Page of Baton Rouge, Miss Allie Wing and Mrs. Leon Jones of Liberty, MS. 17 Feb 1939; p. 3, col. 5: Houston Terrell, 50, of Roseland, died in Baton Rouge Monday from injuries received in an auto accident between Baptist and Albany. X. A. Terrell, brother of the dead man, suffered a broken wrist in the accident. 17 Feb 1939; p. 3, col. 7: Patsy Ruth Gainey, 13 months, died February 9th and the funeral and burial were February 10th; interment being in Beulah cemetery at Baptist. She was the daughter of J. D. and Catherine Gainey and the granddaughter of Jerry Gainey, a well known farmer living near Hammond. 17 Feb 1939; p. 3, col. 1: Kentwood, La., Feb. 14 - Funeral services were held here for Mrs. Ophelia Morris, 84, who died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. W. K. Amacker. The eulogy was given by her son, the Rev. Clyde C. Morris of Ada, OK. Kent Amacker, grandson, sang two of her favortie songs. Mrs. Morris, a widow with eight young children, moved to Kentwood in 1900 where for many years she managed a large hotel. Pallbearers were Ben Morris, Polk Morris, Alton Morris, J. W. Naul, T. G. Womack and her grandsons Kent, Thad and Obie Amacker, A. B. Morris, Jr. and Walter Rhodes. She is survived by four sons and four daughters, 22 grandchildren and four great grandchildren. The sons are Jim Morris of Chicago, A. B. Morris and B. W. Morris of Kentwood and the Rev. Mr. Morris. The daughters are, Mrs. Sam Stevens of Dallas, TX; Mrs. Amacker and Mrs. C. G. Kline of Kentwood, and Mrs. Walter Rhodes of Moncol. 17 Feb 1939; p. 4, col. 3: Ponchatoula, La., Feb. 14 - Funeral services were held this morning for George Lavigne, 83, of Ponchatoula, who died Sunday. He is survived by his widow, the former Miss Annie King; three daughters, Mrs. Una Delaughter and Miss Isabel Lavigne; four sons, Sam Lavigne of Baton Rouge, Morris, Taft and Ehlert Lavigne of Ponchatoula; interment was in the Springfield cemetery. 17 Feb 1939; p. 5, col. 3: William Platt Lanphier, 61, of New Orleans, died at home last Tuesday. Funeral services were held at the residence of his wife's father, Mr. George Kopfler; interment was in Amite City cemetery. Survivors include his widow, the former Katherine Kopfler of Amite; three sons, Raymond Lanphier of Lexington, KY, Platt Lanphier of Lake Charles, Charles Dean Lanphier of New Orleans; two daughters, Mrs. Gus Kraus and Miss Edith Ellen Lanphier of New Orleans; one brother, Guy Lanphier of New Orleans. 24 Feb 1939; p. 1, col. 5: Mrs. Adele Hughes Joffrion, born 4 Oct 1885, died at home in Laurel, MS last Sunday. Funeral services were held Monday; interment was at Laurel. She was the daughter of Mrs. J. D. Hughes, Sr. of Hammond and several sisters and brothers reside here. Other survivors include her widower and the following children: Ida Joffrion Stovall of Jonesboro, LA; Felix Hughes Joffrion of Vicksburg, MS; Cora Belle Joffrion Wallace of Laurel, MS; Emile and Francis Joffrion of Laurel, MS. 24 Feb 1939; p. 1, col. 7: Mrs. Alfred L. Stoessell died Monday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Thomas Evans, in Port Allen. Funeral services and interment were Tuesday in Hammond. She was a native of Kentwood, born 30 Aug 1877, the daughter of the late Fluker Kent and Lilah Amacker Kent, and granddaughter of the late Amos Kent. Mrs. Stoessell was the widow of the late Alfred L. Stoessell who preceded her in death several years. The family lived in Hammond for the past 30 years. She is survived by four sisters; Mrs. Grace Evans of Tangipahoa, Mrs. Henry Habig of Baton Rouge, Mrs. Stewart of Baton Rouge, Mrs. Edward Bassett of Los Angeles, CA; one living brother, Mr. James Kent of Tangipahoa. She was a sister of the late Richard A. Kent, a leader for many years in banking, general mercantile business and farming at Roseland, Amite and Fluker, where his family home still stands. The late Irvin Kent, former assessor of Tangipahoa parish, was also her brother. Of her immediate family, she leaves three daughters, Mrs. D. C. Boyd of Dallas, TX; Mrs. Eddie Mulcay of Hammond and Mrs. Thomas Evans of Port Allen; one son, Alfred Stoessell of Jackson, MS; and six grandchildren. 24 Feb 1939; p. 1, col. 1: Louis B. Wagner, a native of Sunset and resident of Ponchatoula for the past 20 years, died in New Orleans Tuesday. Funeral services were held Wednesday; interment in Catholic cemetery in Ponchatoula. Survivors include eight children: George, Arthur, Matthew, Christian and Louis Wagner, all of Ponchatoula; Mrs. P. E. Temple of Long Beach, MS; Mrs. Henry Efferson of Houston, TX and Mrs. Taylor Meador of Ponchatoula. 24 Feb 1939; p. 4, col. 3: George Thomas Badeau, 78, died Monday at his home in Laurel, MS. Funeral was Monday in Laurel with interment Tuesday [Feb.21] in Ponchatoula. He was a native of Ponchatoula, the son of John and Caroline Mitchell Badeau. On 12 Oct 1891 he married Miss Edith Locke of Mobile, who died about a year ago. He came to Laurel, MS in 1926. He leaves six children: Miss Mary Alice Badeau of Laurel; Joe Badeau of Dallas, TX; Edward Raoul Badeau of Houston, TX; S. L. and D. K. Badeau of Los Angeles; and John Lacy Badeau of Birmingham; and two grandchildren. 3 Mar 1939; p. 1, col. 1: Mrs. John E. Wilcombe, of Hammond, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Lucille Wilcombe McGee, last Saturday. She had been a resident of Hammond for the past 60 years, with the exception of brief intervals. Next August she would have clebrated her 87th anniversary. She was the former Miss Helen Ingalls, born in Calif., coming to Louisiana as a child. She was the widow of the late John E. Wilcombe who died a number of years ago. He was a native of Braggville, Mass., coming to Louisiana in his infancy. He became identified with the Illinois Central railroad as agent here, Osyka, MS and Jackson, MS. The family returned to Hammond in 1893 and Mr. Wilcombe was made cashier of the former Bank of Hammond. Mrs. Wilcombe leaves the following children: Arthur E. Wilcombe; Robert Olen Wilcombe; Mrs. Lucille Wilcombe McGee, widow of the late Leroy McGee who died in 1920; Adrian Ingalls McGee, former postmaster here; Douglass L. Wilcombe, veteran of the World War and U.S. Navy; George Laurence Wilcombe. Miss Marguerite Wilcombe, another daughter, passed away a number of years ago, as did one other son. Funeral services were held Sunday; with interment in Grace cemetery. Pallbearers: Adrian Wilcombe, Jr., Johnny McGee, Douglas Wilcombe, Jr., her three grandsons; Malcolm B. Wright, Jr., Ned Dameron and Henry Mentz. 3 Mar 1939; p. 1, col. 6: Miss Zexa Joiner, 26, of Hammond, died yesterday. She was graduated from the Hammond High School, attended Southeastern Louisiana College and the Soule Business College in New Orleans. She was a member of the Hammond Grammer School faculty for two years, having taught the fifth grade. Funeral services are this Friday; interment in Oak Grove cemetery near Zemurray Lodge. Survivors include her father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. Wilson Joiner; two sisters, Eloise and Frances Joiner; five brothers, Virgil, Curtis, Homer and Donald, all of Hammond, and Claude Joiner of Los Anglees, CA. 3 Mar 1939; p. 4, col. 4: Jimmie Gerring, 53, died Monday. He was an employee of the Railway Express Agency for the past 25 years. Funeral and burial was Tuesday. He leaves only his widow. 3 Mar 1939; p. 5, col. 5: Independence, La., Feb. 28 - Mrs. Elmira Strickland Bennett, 85, widow of the late Preston Bennett, died at home February 23rd. Funeral services were held at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. W. J. Wall; interment was in Stevens cemetery east of Independence. Survivors include the following daughters, Mrs. W. I. Addison, Wrs. W. J. Wall, Mrs. J. M. Wall, Mrs. A. J. Addison, Mrs. Charles T. Addison; sons, Ellis P. and Ivy H. Bennett; sisters, Mrs. R. T. Cloud, Mrs. Clara Story, Mrs. J. E. Strickland and Mrs. J. H. Strickland; 46 grandchildren and 59 great grandchildren. 3 Mar 1939; p. 5, col. 3: Natalbany, La., Feb. 28 - Funeral services for Mrs. Tivna Gaetinna Dipaola, 63, were held in Hammond Tuesday; interment in Colonial cemetery at Independence. Mrs. Dipaola died at home in Natalbany Mon. Survivors include her widower, Gasper Dipaola and five children. 10 Mar 1939; p. 5, col. 7: Ponchatoula, La., March 6 - Funeral services were held Tuesday for Barney N. King, 57, who died Sunday of a heart attack. He farmed in the Ponchatoula community for the past 18 to 20 years. Survivors include his widow, the former Ida Herring of Hammond, and two sons, Wallace and Vernon King of Ponchatoula; three daughters, Illa Mae, Ettalee and Mrs. Earl Bourgeois. Interment was in Sandhill cemetery. 10 Mar 1939; p. 5, col. 2: Mrs. Viola A. Foster, 75, died in a New Orleans hospital Sunday. Funeral services were held Monday in Hammond; interment was in Greenlawn cemetery. Survivors include two daughters in California and one daughter in Brookhaven, Miss.; two sisters in Hammond, Mrs. Henry Walder and Mrs. John Blomquist; one brother, S. E. Anderson of Houston, TX; one nephew, Floyd Anderson of Hammond. The late Fred O. Anderson was her brother. 17 Mar 1939; p. 1, col. 2: Ponchatoula, La. - Funeral services were held Tuesday at Osyka, MS for W. L. Ernest, a resident of Ponchatoula, who died at the home of his son-in-law, Edward Cowen, in Wesson, MS on Monday. Ernest was born in Stockholm, Sweden on 4 April 1870. He is survived by his widow, and two step-sons, C. J. Becker of Jackson, MS and Jack Becker of Washington, D.C.; one step-daughter, Mrs. Louis Scheuermann of New Orleans; three daughters, Mrs. Ed Cowen and Mrs. Malcolm Munson of Wesson, MS, Mrs. Charles Branch of Ponchatoula; and one son, L. L. Ernest of Jackson, MS. 17 Mar 1939; p. 5, col. 4: Mrs. Mary Ann Tuttle Gray, 76, died in Hammond at the home of her son, J. W. Tuttle, last Friday. Funeral services were held in McComb, MS Saturday; interment there. Survivors include her widower, John Gray, of Tangipahoa; ten children; 51 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren; and one brother. 24 Mar 1939; p. 1, col. 1: Dr. Walter Hugh Brent [pictured], died Saturday in Hammond. A native of Bogue Chitto, MS; born 12 March 1879. He graduated Tulane University Medical College in 1905; interned at Charity Hospital in New Orleans; came to this area more than 30 years ago. He was a member of the American Medical Association, the State Board of Medical Examiners, Southern Medical Association, Florida Parishes Medical Association; physician for Southeastern College; associate doctor for the Illinois Central railroad. Survivors include his widow, Katherine Henderson Brent; one daughter, Mrs. Max Durham of Ripley, TN; one son, Walter Hugh Brent, Jr. of Hammond; one grandson, Max Durham, Jr. of Ripley, TN; his mother, Mrs. J. W. Brent of Bogue Chitto, MS, now in her 90th year; sisters, Miss Clara Brent and Mrs. William Cox of Bogue Chitto, MS, Mrs, G. W. Connely of Brookhaven, MS; Mrs. B. F. Herman of Crosby, MS; one brother, Robert L. Brent, 90, mother of the late Dr. Walter H. Brent, died at home in Bogue Chitto, MS last Sunday. Dr. Brent passed away on Saturday, March 18th. The former Miss Jane Price was a native of Lincoln County [MS] and spent her whole life in Bogue Chitto. Her husband died in 1922 and a son, Dr. Walter Brent of Hammond, La. had passed away recently. He was born in St. Helena Parish, 8 August 1903, and with his wife, the former Lou Starns, whom he married in Kentwood in 1916, came to Ponchatoula in 1920 and opened a grocery and market. At the age of 21 he moved to Sioux City, IA where he resided with Mr. and Mrs. Harry Wolf and Daniel Wolf. In 1895, he with his brother, Daniel W. Wolf, moved to Hammond where he has lived ever since. He organized the Hammond Building and Manufacturing Company with his two brothers, Harry and Daniel. He was married to Miss Laura Bates in 1906, who later passed away in 1908. His second marriage was to Mrs. Nettie Bates in 1913. The latter preceded him in death five years. Clark, 63, of Hammond, died last Tuesday in a New Orleans hospital. He was a native of Florida; lived in Louisiana about 30 years. The family lived at Frost for some years before moving to Hammond. Husser, familiarly known as "Uncle Poleat" died Sunday at home in Husser. Had he lived until 17 October, he would have been 91. He was a boy during the Civil War and remembered the hardships. He helped his father on the farm and in the blacksmith shop. He later did bookkeeping in New Orleans and also as a wheelwright. He and his brothers had a shop in Madisonville. Back in Independence he obtained a teachers certificate and taught school for awhile. He was Justice of the Peace for 14 years. He established the Husser Post Office in 1888 which was named in honor of his father, Lawrence. Uncle Poleat's brother, Joseph, known as "Uncle Joe," carried mail for 20 years. The postmastership is being carried on by Elzie Husser, a great-nephew of Uncle Poleat. Mr. Husser's parents, Barbara Smith Husser and Lawrence Husser, came to the U.S. from Alsace-Lorraine in early 1800. They had six children. Uncle Poleat was married more than 63 years ago to Josephine St. Cyr of Amite, who preceded him in death. They had seven sons, four now surviving; Peter and Victor of Amite and John and Hypolite, Jr. of Husser. He is also survived by 17 grand children, Lena, Florence, Glyn, Bede and Freddie Husser of Amite; Lelia Boyd, Laurine Alfonso and Cora Husser of Hammond; Eve Joiner, Viriena Casanona, Olivet Tycer, Leon Husser, Lillian Casanova and Mable Brunett of Husser; two, Ambrose and Camilia preceded him. Great grandchildren surviving are: Thelma Joiner Grace, Austin, Dwight, J. W., Farrell, Felder and Laverne Casanova of Husser; Jeanette, Orlee and Vivian Brunett of Husser; Juanita, Dewitt, Morris, Margaret Louise, Leon Jr., Shirlie Ann Husser of Husser; Wonda Jane and Larry Husser of Amite; Betty Jean and Fay Ann Tycer of Husser. She was the widow of Judge Milton A. Strickland, who died 30 years ago. She was educated at the old Norvilla Institute near Greensburg and at the State Normal college at Matchitoches. The body was taken to Memphis for cremation after which remains will be interred in the Ellis family cemetery at Amite.
