During the year just passed some of Hammond's finest citizens have passed over the river and are now resting on the other side. Perhaps these same loved ones did just as most of us are doing today, looking forward to a Happy and Prosperous New Year, and forcing ourselves to believe that it may be the other fellow, but not ourselves, who may be called. Somehow it is hard to believe that in 1937 we may help to make up "the caravan that moves to that mysterious realm where we shall take our abode in the silent chambers of death." Yet who knows the ones who will make up the list of 1937. Not a pleasant thought, but a serious one. Scarcely had the peal of the New Year bells faded away when the grim reaper began, or rather continued his work, and it will continue each month with equal regularity, respecting no person, the old, the young, the rich and the poor. We obtained from Registrar of Vital Statistics this week a list of deaths that occurred during the year 1936. In looking over these we are forcibly reminded of the immutable certainty of death. These records only contain the list of those who died in Hammond and immediate vicinity. A numer of our citizens died in New Orleans and other places and they are not recorded in Hammond. The following is a list of names, age, and date of death: Mary Catherine Voss 18 Jan. 3 George Rousseaux Thompson 55 Jan. 24 Dr. A. P.
