Jacqueline C. Abel, 55, died Tuesday, March 18, 2003, in a Fort Worth hospital. She was a former resident of Hammond and worked as a travel agent. Her survivors include a son, David R. Abel; his parents Jack O. and Dolores McMurry; a sister, Teresa Gonzales; three brothers, Mike, Terry and Scott Wicker; and two grandchildren. Her husband, Walter R. Abel, preceded her in death. The funeral will be at Biggers Funeral Home, Fort Worth, Friday at 11 a.m. A committal service will be at 3 p.m. in the Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery. Memorial donations may be to the Abel Memorial Fund c/o First United Methodist Church, Ponchatoula, LA 70454. *************************************************************************** Obituary published in The Advocate (Baton Rouge) on: 9/24/2004 ABEL, SHEREE LYNN Sheree Abel, previous owner of The Land of Sports in Hammond, died Tuesday, Sept. 21, 2004, at Summit Hospital, Baton Rouge. She was 48, a native of Hammond and a resident of Walker. She was a teacher with the Livingston Parish school system at Westside Junior High in Walker. She was formerly an employee of Southeastern Louisiana University and was an SLU Alumni Center board member. She graduated summa cum laude from Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, and received her master's degree at SLU. Sheree served on various committees for community affairs. She was former president and board member of the Hammond Chamber of Commerce and Gulf Coast Conservation Association. She was past president of the Hammond chapter of Ducks Unlimited, as well as former member of the Hammond Jaycees, being selected as the Woman of the Year for the Louisiana Jaycees. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Hammond. Sheree is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Melanie Abel Denison and Mark Denison of Newport News, Va.; brothers and sisters-in-law, Ronald William Abel and Beth Pack Abel and Donald William Abel and Eydie Fullman Abel, all of Hammond, three nephews, Adam Denison, Alex Denison and Matthew Abel; four nieces, Ashley Denison, Rebecca Abel, Lisa Abel and Laura Abel; and two aunts, Jerline Naquin and Edna Abel. She was preceded in death by her parents, Billy Don Abel and Doris Helen Morgan. Visitation was at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 2503 Old Baton Rouge Highway, Hammond, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 23. Visitation at the church from 9 a.m. until funeral service at 10 a.m. Friday. Burial in Rose Memorial Cemetery. Abel Sr. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War, awarded the Bronze Star and a graduate of Texas Wesleyan University in Fort Worth.
