He was born March 12, 1927 in Tickfaw, son of the late Joe L. and Rosalie DiBenedetto Abene. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Council #10160, Tickfaw, St. Joseph Society, and was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II. Mr. Abene was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother. Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Pauline Restivo Abene; daughter and son-in-law, Rose Mary Abene and Terry Daniels; daughter, Veda Abene; son and daughter-in-law, Joseph L. and Gay Fedele Abene, III; granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Leslie Guzzardo and Charley Cormier; grandchildren, Blake and Blair Abene; brother, Victor J. Abene; and 2 sisters, Lena Marten and Marie Migliorie. He was preceded in death by 3 sisters, Corrine Anzalone, Phyllis Anzalone, and Lucy Gross, and 2 brothers, Tony and Leon Abene. Friends will be received Wednesday, February 21, 2007 at Harry McKneely & Son in Hammond from 6 pm til 10 pm, and after 8 am on Thursday until 10:15 am. Services will be held at Our Lady of Pompeii Catholic Church, Thursday, February 22, 2007 at 10:30 AM with Fr. Cayet Mangiaracina, O.P. officiating. Interment will follow in the Tickfaw Catholic Cemetery.
