He was an instructor with the C.T.A. Program through the Department of Education in Tangipahoa Parish. Survivors include his wife, Joyce Lirette Abernathy; children, Carolyn Carter, Evangeline Lambert and Samuel Abernathy; sister, Myrtle Purvis; and brother, "Bro" Abernathy. Six brothers and six sisters preceded him in death. The funeral was held this morning at E.J. You left us priceless memories, your love is still our guide, and though we can not see you, you will always be at our side. John Beamon Abernathy passed away January 26, 2013 at age 76. He was born in Lion, Arkansas November 27, 1936. He was a longtime resident of Springfield, LA. He was retired from State of Louisiana, Department of Transportation and Development. He is survived by son Todd Ray and wife Tracie Abernathy of Hammond, LA, and daughter Melissa Ann and husband Russell E. Louk, II of Denham Springs, LA., step-children Jessica Lynn and husband William Loveday of Gulfport, MS and John Ross Ford of Gulfport, MS. He delighted in his grandchildren Stephon and Seth Louk; William, Brittani, and Bailey Loveday. He was blessed with four great-grandchildren Gregory and Grayden Loveday, Roemer Harrison and Caralyn Loveday. One brother, James Garland and wife Patsy Abernathy of Sevierville, TN and sister, Martha Ann Chapman of Denham Springs, LA., brother-in-law, Robert (Pete) and wife Stella Williamson of Pumpkin Center, LA, and sister-in-law Betty Ruth Abernathy of Pearl River, LA. and sister- in-law Debra Abernathy of Middletown, OH, and many neices and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hosea and Lucille Abernathy, wife Gloria Elaine Peek Abernathy and second wife Lida Marie Wall Ford Abernathy.
