ACKEL, GEORGE JOSEPH, JR.
George Joseph Ackel Jr., 57, passed away on Wed., Nov. 11, 2009, of
complication during a medical procedure.  He is survived by his children,
George Ackel III of New Orleans, Alana Ackel Tallo of Hammond (Troy), Adam
Ackel of Abita Springs (Monica), and Alexander Ackel of New Orleans;
grandchildren Brandon, Adam Jr., Austin, Blayre, Alton and Alexandra; wife
Jerilyn Reed Ackel and her children, Tiffany Montero, Kelseay Reed, and
Russ Reed, and her grandson Braylon Montero; his mother Jeanette Lentini
Ackel of Harahan; and brother Thad Ackel Sr. of Bossier City.  Preceded in
death by his father, George Ackel Sr. Born Nov. 28, 1951, in New Orleans,
he had a passion for public affairs and was a frequent and prominent player
in local, regional and state politics. He was a real estate developer, and
owner and breeder of horses. Known as a successful businessman as much as
for his character and kindness, he will be fondly missed by many.
Visitation will be held Monday from 6-10 p.m. and Tuesday 9-11 a.m. at
Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home at 4747 Veterans Blvd., followed by a service at
11:30 at St. Ritašs Catholic Church in Harahan.  Burial will be at Lakelawn
Cemetery in Metairie.
