Our husband, father and paw- paw was the loving essence of each of those roles. He was born to Lula Mae Hoover Albin and Theodore Albin on April 23, 1925. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and served with the occupation forces in Japan. Leonce was a career firefighter and was named Louisiana's youngest fire chief for the city of Hammond at the age of 29 in 1954. Having served as Hammond's fire chief for 29 years, he retired from the service in 1983. Active in civic and philanthropic efforts, Leonce was honored as Citizen of the Year in 1965. A lifelong musician, he frequently performed as a talented guitarist and mandolin player with several bluegrass bands following his retirement. Leonce delighted family and friends with produce from his bountiful garden every year. He remained vital and active until his recent illness. Leonce was married for 55 years to Yvonne Morgan Albin. The spirit of Leonce remains alive in his surviving children, Cheryl Albin Webre and fianc‚ Scott Berry of Hammond, Joan Albin Morgan and husband Sammy of Independence and Lonnie Albin, M.D., and wife Rhonda of Scottsboro, Ala. He is survived by two brothers, Ted Albin and Joe Albin, both of Livingston. Leonce adored his seven grandchildren, Melanie Webre, Brent Webre, Colby Morgan, Desanne Boyd, Jake Albin, Emily Albin and Amanda Albin; and a great-grandchild, Britani Webre. He also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews and a host of dear friends. Yvonne, born on October 12, 1929, graduated from Hammond High School and spent many happy years employed at Sears in Hammond. In later years, she greatly enjoyed growing beautiful flowers, feeding generations of birds, painting, canning produce from the family garden, traveling with husband, Leonce around the country, and spending good times with her children and grandchildren. In her later years, she lived with a serene grace that brought her family much joy. Yvonne has left behind, with grateful hearts, her three children, Cheryl Albin Berry(husband, Scott), of Daphne, Alabama, Joan Albin Morgan(husband, Sammy) of Independence, Louisiana, and Dr. Lonnie Albin(wife,Rhonda) of Scottsboro, Alabama.
