He definitely knew the value of a hard days work and if you hung with him, you would, too. He loved them Tigers, his first love being the Centreville Academy Tigers, then the LSU Tigers. His all-time favorite was watching his grandsons play ALL sports for CA Tigers. He would even (sometimes) watch his granddaughters dance and cheer, but his biggest passion was the football game. Carolyn "Sue" Allen went home to be with the Lord Jesus Christ Friday, October 5, 2007 from her home in Hammond, La. Her husband and children were by her side. Sue was born April 19, 1948 in Tuscola, IL. to the late Charles and Pauline Cary Shaw who were originally from Burkesville, KY. Sue is survived by her husband Rev. Ronald Allen of Hammond, three children, Rev. Sarah Allen Morgan (Mike), Pumpkin Center, LA., Ronald C. Allen (Johana), Bristow, VA., Ginger Allen Terry (Kendyl), Casper WY., two step children, Jan Frame( Michael), Rosedale, IN. and Angela Allen, Leroy, IL. She also leaves behind two sisters, Mary Shaw Good, Arcola, IL. and Sally Shaw Davis also of Arcola, IL. Three brothers, Don Shaw, Arcola, IL., Bill Shaw, Griffin, GA. and Phil Shaw of Valdosta, GA. Sue leaves sixteen grand- children and two great grandchildren. Sue was born again along with her husband in March of 1974 in Charleston, IL. and almost immediately went to work for her Lord. She was officially ordained as a Christian minister in 1999. Sue and Ron have served congregations in Illinois, Tennessee, and since 1980 here in Louisiana. Ron and Sue served the Hanson Avenue/ Pleasant Ridge Church of God for approximately 11 years. Sue served as pastor of the Wood Haven Church two years and was presently serving as associate pastor of the Landmark Church of God, Covington, LA. along with her husband Ron who is the Senior Pastor. Sue served many years as the director of the Louisiana Church of God Youth Fellowship. She served on the steering committee for the founding of the Northlake Crisis Pregnancy Center also serving as volunteer and eventually the Director for many years. Sue's life as a Christian can be summed up with one word, servant. >From the beginning of her walk with Jesus she has been a servant. Sue was gifted with the ability to talk with and to people who were often struggling with life and spiritual matters. She could tell you the truth about your situation and make you feel loved at the same time. She has had many children not born to her but given to her by God. Many people have called her Mom and Grandma who are not part of her biological family. Sometimes her biological family was required to make room for others in their home as Sue extended the love of God to those who had need of a family and another "Mom." Pastor Ron Allen and the family members extend their thanks and blessings to all who have given support and love during their struggle against cancer. She was 94 years of age at the time of her passing. Mrs. Allen was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 42 years, George Herman Allen. Together they owned and operated Allen's Grocery east of Hammond until 1974. She was also preceded in death by her father and mother, Berlin and Estelle Hoover; and two brothers and their wives, Berton and Ellazean Hoover and L.E. "Doc" and Daisey Hoover; as well as a brother-in-law, J.P. Allen Sr.; and nephew, James P. Allen Jr. Surviving Mrs. Allen are a daughter, Elaine A. Guagliardo and her husband, John, and a son, G. Wayne Allen, and his wife, Jennifer, all of whom reside in Hammond. She is also survived by a brother, Donald Lee Hoover, and his wife, Sue, and a sister-in-law, Pansy B. Allen, all of Hammond. Also surviving her are three grandchildren: a granddaughter, Elizabeth Pierson Clement, of Sunnyvale, Calif., a grandson, Brandon W. Mrs. Allen was a life- long member of the Woodland Park Baptist Church where she was a faithful member of the Fidelis Sunday school class for many years. She loved her church and attended regularly until her health forced her to move to Belle Maison Nursing Home where she had resided for 10 years. She also loved working with the ladies of the church in the kitchen helping to prepare and serve food at fellowship functions of the church through many years. While residing at Belle Maison she has also regularly attended and enjoyed participating in the Sunday morning church services held at the nursing home.
