A retired business leader, he owned and operated bridge and road construction companies, with gravel, concrete and asphalt plant subsidiaries. He was also a cattleman, real estate developer and tree farmer. As a U.S. Marine during World War II, he saw action in the Asia-Pacific Theatre of Operations, where he was inducted into the Ruptured Duck Society after his plane was lost to the Pacific Ocean. Upon his returning home, he became a charter member of the local VFW and was a life member of the Marine Corps League. He was a past-president of the Amite Gun Club, where he was a champion skeet shooter, avid sportsman and conservationist. He was the founder of Camp Whispering Pines, the Southeast Louisiana Girl Scouts' Camp in rural Tangipahoa Parish. In his early life, he was an Eagle Boy Scout. After graduation from Southeastern Louisiana College, he pursued graduate work in math and physics at LSU, then taught briefly in the Washington Parish School System. He was a fraternal member of Kappa Delta Tau. He served on numerous civic and other boards, including Community State Bank Board of Independence as a director. He served also on the Tangipahoa Parish School Board from 1981 to 1989. In the 1980s, he was on the commission of Indian Affairs for the state of Louisiana. He is survived by his wife, Frances Snell of Mount Hermon; four children, Andy Anderson, Claire Bel and Patrick Anderson, all of Amite, and Becky Desmond of Brevard, N.C. He also leaves five grand- daughters, two great-granddaughters and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Annie Cooper Anderson; and three brothers, Hermann, Fred and George.
