A resident of Tickfaw, he died Tuesday, July 22, 2003, at Hammond Rehabilitation Hospital, Hammond. He was 74 and a native of New Orleans. April Jr.; parents, Alvin G. and Josephine Burt April; four brothers, Kenny, Gordon, Nolan and John April; and three half-brothers, Alvin, Earl and Leslie April. *************************************************************************** Obituary published in the Hammond Daily Star on: 2/24/2011 APRIL, JOHN CLARENCE John Clarence April, beloved husband of Peggy Jean Stewart April for 56 years, entered the Kingdom of Heaven on February 20, 2011. Born in New Orleans on June 5, 1931 he was a graduate of Metairie High School in 1949. He worked for Western Electric and AT&T at the New Orleans Service Center from 1951 - 1984. He served in the US Army from 1951 and received an honorable discharge in 1953. He met the love of his life in 1949 and he and Peggy were married June 20, 1953 at St. Catherine of Sienna in Metairie by Father OÕReilly. After moving to Ponchatoula in 1979, he and his wife loved working for Zemurray Gardens in Loranger for many years. He is survived by one sister Micheline April Remy (husband Bob Remy) and his children, Glenda April Castro (son in law Henry J. Castro, Jr.) Janice Lynn April, Jonda April Hamilton (son in law Richard Hamilton), and John Tracy April (daughter in law Sonya Morse April), grandchildren Heather Williams, Jennifer Williams Hebert, Kyle Castro, Lauren April, Alexis Hamilton and one great-grandson, Tyler Hebert, known to them as Poppa. He was a resident of Metairie for 48 years, moved to Ponchatoula in 1979. He is preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Jean Stewart April, his parents, Clarence Hubert April and Juanita Vollenweider April and an infant brother, Clarence Jr. Whether you called him Johnny, April, Apple, Daddy or Poppa, you knew there was no greater love in his life than his wife. Now, we will miss them both. Born in Statesville, N.C., & lived in Metairie for many years before becoming a long-time resident of Ponchatoula , La. She was one of three children born to the late Brooks P. and Bessie M. Stewart and the beloved wife of John C. April for 56 years. She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Bobbie Michel and one brother Brooks P. Stewart, Jr. Peggy was a devoted and caring wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She will forever be remembered by her beloved children Glenda April Castro, Janice April (Williams), Jonda April Hamilton, and John T. April, loving son-in-laws Henry Castro, Jr, and Richard Hamilton and one daughter-in-law Sonya M. April. She treasured her five grand- children Heather Williams, Jennifer Williams Hebert, Kyle Castro, Lauren April, Alexis Hamilton & one great-grandson Tyler Hebert. She had countless other friends and family whom were blessed to know her. She was a former preschool and Sunday School teacher, Girl Scout leader, member of the Robert Beavers Homemakers Club, the Ponchatoula Gardenettes and Celebration Fellowship Church. She will also be remembered for being an avid sportsman, having played and excelled in sports for many years. Services will be held on Friday, July 24, 2009 at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home in Ponchatoula, La from 6:00pm until 9:00pm and 9am-11am on Saturday July 25, 2009 at Celebration Fellowship Church with the service beginning at 11:00pm.
