She was 90 years old. Mrs. Atkins was born in Houston, Texas and married Roy Atkins in 1940. She worked as a sales lady at Woolworths and moved to New Orleans, Louisiana in 1956. She worked for D.H. Holmes Department Store in Lakeside until she moved with her husband to Hammond, LA in 1986. She is a member of First Presbyterian Church in Hammond. Survivors include her two sons, Ronny Atkins of Ponchatoula, LA, Gary Atkins of Seattle,WA; two grandsons, David Atkins of Ponchatoula, LA, Nathan Atkins of Seattle,WA; five great-grandchildren, Colleen, Blair and Bradley Atkins, all of Ponchatoula and Bixby and Truman Atkins of Seattle, WA; one sister, Elizabeth Bell of Corrigan, TX; and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, Fritz & Adele Jane Wilke Koska; and her brothers and sisters. He was born Sunday, March 16, 1919, in Forreston, Texas, son of the late Robert and Inez Atkins. He worked for Shell Oil Co. in Houston. During World War II, he served 4ä years in the Coast Guard. He went to work for Nabisco in 1947 as a sales representative in Dallas, Terrell, Tyler, Bay City and Houston. He was transferred to New Orleans in 1956, as a sales branch manager and retired from Nabisco in 1984. He moved to Hammond in 1986. He was a member of the Masonic lodge, a 32nd degree Shriner, a member of the Scottish Rite Temple and an elder in First Presbyterian Church in Hammond. After retirement he did volunteer work and was instrumental in starting the local chapters of the Boys & Girls Club and Habitat for Humanity. In 1994, he was inducted into the Hammond Junior Auxiliary's Hall of Fame in recognition of his community volunteer work. Surviving are two sons, Ronny Atkins, of Albany and Gary Atkins, of Seattle; two grandsons, David Atkins, of Ponchatoula and Nathan Atkins, of Seattle; five great-grandchildren, Colleen, Blair, Bradley, Truman and Bixby Atkins; and numerous nieces and nephews.
