"CHARLIE" "D.J." A resident of Morgan City for more than 60 years and a native of Labadieville, he died peacefully on Friday, March 21, 2008, at his home. He was 91 and the owner of Aucoin's General Merchandise, later renamed as Aucoin's Hardware, for more than 56 years. Mr. Aucoin was known to be very kind and generous to all who knew him. He always seemed to be able to take life in stride. He loved gardening and enjoyed building projects of all kinds. He also served in the military during World War II. Mr. Aucoin is survived by his daughter, Jane Aucoin Lopez and her husband, Ronald, of New Iberia; three sons, Calvin Aucoin and Dewey Jr. and wife Kim Jubert Aucoin, all of Morgan City, and Michael and wife Judy Verrett Aucoin, of Denham Springs. He is also survived by his seven grandchildren, Melissa Lopez Soileau and husband Scott, of Pine Prairie, Scott Lopez and wife Michele Rainey Lopez, of Frisco, Texas, Gina Lopez, of Houston, David Aucoin and wife Laura, of Hammond, Sarah Aucoin Matak and husband Michael, of Beaumont, Angela Aucoin Nettles and husband David, of California, and Kayla Aucoin Cheramie and husband Paul, of Morgan City; and great-grandchildren, Seth, Kyle and Jake Soileau, Julia, Aaron and Alexander Aucoin, Katherine Matak and Ranilie Cheramie. He was preceded in death by his wife, Emily Breaux Aucoin; parents, Louise and Ernest Aucoin; brothers, Elven, Cleveland, Uhry and Edward Sr.; and sisters, Esma Barras, Lydia Blanchard and Rita Barras. She was 96, a resident of Baton Rouge and a native of Independence. Visiting at Rabenhorst Funeral Home chapel, 825 Government St., from 9 a.m. Wednesday until religious service at 11 a.m., conducted by the Rev. Donald Blanchard. Interment in Greenoaks Memorial Park. She is survived by a sister, Margaret K. Frey of Kentwood; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, J. Mr. James Camille Aucoin Jr., 65 years old of Springfield, died Tuesday, May 1, 2007 in North Oaks Medical Center. He was born Wednesday, November 19, 1941, in New Orleans, son of the late James C. and Ida Dwyer Aucoin Sr. He was a native of New Orleans, graduated from East Jefferson High School, spent time as a reservist in the US Marine Corp, and graduated in 1983 from Southeastern Louisiana University with a BA in Special Education. JC (as he was known by many) taught at a variety of schools with his last employment at Maurepas School. He was a member of the Council for Exceptional Children and helped to implement programs into different communities to help the communications between parents and their children. Children always came first in his heart along with his beloved pets. His favorite past time was fishing, watching good movies, working on the family cars, traveling or just visiting with family and friends. He is so loved by many and will be missed by all. Surviving are his wife of 26 years, Catherine Booth Aucoin and daughter, SrA Amber Shea Aucoin; son, James C. A. Johnson; brother, Kenneth J. Aucoin; nephew, David Tassin; niece, Sandra Tassin Ward, and his precious pet, Baby Girl along with so many more who dearly loved him. He was preceded in death by his sister, Patricia A. Tassin.
