He was 91 and a native of Amite. Religious service at New Pilgrim Baptist Church at 7 p.m. Tuesday, conducted by Pastor Errol K. Domingue. Dismissal at 11 a.m. Wednesday. Interment in St. Paul Cemetery, Clinton. Preceded in death by his parents, John and Katherine Augustus; wife, Josie Bell Augustus; and brothers. He was married to Anita James of Hammond. They were the parents of DeAna Alise and DeAndrÉ Stephen. He had four sisters, Audrey Plummer, Marvene and Jo Ann Augustus and Emelda Thomas; two brothers, Joseph Jr. (Shieleta) and Richard (Valerie) Augustus; 16 nieces and nephews; and eight godchildren. He was an employee of Equilon Enterprises LLC, Houston. He served faithfully as an elder at the Church of the Burning Fire in Zachary, under the pastorate of Ernest Morris. He was an active member of Promise Keepers. He got a glimpse of glory and chose to walk the streets of gold on Sunday, Sept. 5, 1999, at 8:30 a.m. Homegoing celebration will be held Thursday, with silent visitation from 11 a.m. until religious services beginning at noon at Living Faith Christian Center, 6180 Winbourne Ave. Interment in Mount Olive Baptist Church Cemetery, 9108 Greenwell Springs Road. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to the Elton Dale Augustus Scholarship Fund, c/o Church of the Burning Fire, 4930 E. Central Ave., Zachary LA 70791. N.A.
