She was 101 and a native of Livingston Parish. Visitation at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home, Hammond, from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Wednesday and after 8 a.m. Thursday. Religious services in the funeral home chapel at 11 a.m. Thursday, conducted by Brother Steve Elston and Brother Michael Williamson. Interment in Oak Grove Church of God Cemetery, Loranger. Survived by three daughters, Maythel Averett Bankston, Loranger, Mae Averett Averett, Holden, and Mary Belle Averett Wascom, Loranger; a son, Gerald L. Averett, Loranger; 15 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren, 21 great-great-grand- children and a great-great-great-grandchild. Gerald Lavelle Averett Sr. was born Feb. 8, 1932, and died 5:42 p.m. Friday, Nov. 25, 2011, at North Oaks Medical Center. He was 79 and a lifelong resident of Loranger. He was a wonderful and loving companion, good provider, excellent father and a good role model. Gerald was a successful dairyman for 55 years, the owner and manager of Averett Dirt Pit and Louisiana Bred Race Horses. He also served on numerous boards such as the Gulf Dairy Association, Dairymen, Inc., Louisiana Quarter Horse Breeder's Association and Federal Land Bank. Gerald leaves behind his wife of 57 years, Margie Kinchen Averett; two sons, Gerald L. "Dewey" Averett Jr. and Ronnie K. Averett and wife Kathleen H. Averett; grandchildren, Gerald L. "Truvy" Averett III, Lacey Lee Ard and husband Charlie, Kylie Ann Averett, Heath Dalton Averett and Robert Brendon Averett; great-granddaughter, Madelyn Ard; a sister, Mary Belle Wascom; nieces and nephews, Earl Bankston Jr., Lavelle Averett, Wayne Averett, Lane Averett, Andria Wascom, Delores Messer, Clifton H. "Sonny" Wascom Jr., Paul Edward Averett Jr., Daryl Averett and Wanda Brazeal; as well as numerous great nieces and nephews. Preceding Gerald in death were his parents, George Edward and Etta Blount Averett; sisters, Maythel Bankston and Mae Averett; brother, Paul Edward Averett; nephew, Lindon Averett; and two nieces, Bobby Jean Wilkinson and Wanda Jeanine Wilkinson. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral service from the chapel of Brandon G. Thompson Funeral Home, west of Hammond, on Tuesday, Nov. 29, 11 a.m. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at the funeral home chapel on Monday from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m., and again on Tuesday from 9 a.m. until the funeral service time. The Rev. Michael Williamson will officiate the services and interment will follow in Averett Cemetery, Lacey Lee Lane in Loranger. Pallbearers will be Keith E. Averett, Kelly C.
