The Lord made known Leroy's inheritance of Gods mercy, grace, and riches through the baptism of the spirit at the age of 80. The Lord used his faithful mother, wife and children as a mouthpiece of his steadfast love and mercy throughout his life. Leroy valiantly served his country in the US Army during WWII. With a deep love from his wife, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, Leroy will be missed dearly. He was a hard worker who spent most of his life as a dairy farmer. His generosity and kindness was known by many throughout the area. She was the wife of Peter O. Bankston, who died December 31, 1936. She spent her entire life in Loranger. She drove the first school bus (with horses) to serve the Loranger school. She was a member of the Loranger Methodist Church and a member of the Women's Society of Christian Service. She was born April 17, 1917, in Bolivar to John Leslie and Sarah "Sally" Bankston. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Fannie Bankston, Houston Bankston, Olan Bankston, Wilma St. Pierre, Iddo Bankston and Alma Bankston; and numerous nieces and nephews. Surviving her are her nieces and nephews, Virginia Redd, Brenda Bankston, Hollis Bankston, Sara Lou Eichler, Jimmy Bankston and Stanley St. Pierre; and numerous great-nieces and -nephews. Thelma earned her bachelor's degree at Southeastern Louisiana College in 1939 and her master's degree at LSU. Her area of study was business education. Her teaching career began at Kentwood High School, Chesborough High School and Rougon High School, where she taught business subjects. In 1947, she began a 40-year teaching career at Southeastern Louisiana University in the College of Business. A lifelong Baptist, she was a charter member of Immanuel Baptist Church in Hammond. Thelma enjoyed traveling and gardening. In addition to her professional business education affiliations, she was a sponsor for SLU's Alpha Omicron Pi chapter and the National Collegiate Association for Secretaries. She was invited to membership in 1965 to the Omicron chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma and was given the state's highest designation, the Red Rose Award, in 1994. In her retirement she was an active member of Louisiana Retired Teachers Association, the SLU Alumni Association and Hammond Round Table. Thelma also volunteered her time and leadership abilities to North Oaks Hospital and Capitol Home Health.
