She was 49. Visitation at Richardson Funeral Home, Amite, from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday. Funeral at Zion Traveler Baptist Church, Independence, at 11 am. Wednesday, conducted by the Rev. Wilbard Jones. Burial in White Cemetery, Independence. Survived by her husband, Willie H. Batieste Sr., Independence; four sons, Willie H. Batieste Jr., Folsom, and Joaquin A. Batieste, Deshun K. Batieste and Desmond J. Batieste, all of Independence; a daughter, Devona N. Martin, Independence; six sisters, Ruthie McElwee, Georgia White, Clare Baham and Jessie Watkins, all of Independence, Girlia Sanders, Kenner, and Josephine Thomas, Austin, Texas; two brothers, Tolar White, Baton Rouge, and Benjamin White, Independence; mother, Inez White, Independence; and eight grand- children.
