"DUTCH" Dutch Battle, a longtime resident of the Hammond/Ponchatoula area, died Monday, Dec. 18, 2006, near his home in Summit, Miss., due to injuries sustained in an auto accident. Visitation at First United Methodist Church, Hammond, on Friday, Dec. 22, from 10 a.m. until memorial service at noon. Jones Family Funeral Services is charge of arrangements. He was born on July 28, 1948, in Houston. Dutch, a U.S. Navy veteran of the Vietnam War, served on the USS Ponchatoula. He was a graduate of Southeastern Louisiana University and was an avid hunter. He was involved in the Columbia Theater Players and the Ponchatoula Kiwanis Club. After a long career in the insurance business, Dutch followed his passion for motorcycles and, at the time of his death, worked for Harley Davidson of Hammond. He rode with his friends, the Magnificent Seven, and together they made the journey to Sturgis, S.D., for Bike Week. He is survived by his wife, Susan Cadwallader Battle; daughters, Reagan and her husband, Craig Johnson, of Hammond, and Lindsay and her husband, James Lirette, of Ponchatoula; brothers, Dr. Pat Battle, Summit, and Byron Battle and his wife, Margarita, Queretaro, Mexico; sisters-in-law, Janet and her husband, Dr. Bill Gunnell, Summit, and Laney Crampton, Madison, Miss.; brothers-in-law, John Cadwallader, Baton Rouge, the Rev. Douglas Cadwallader, Houston, and Roy Crampton, Jackson, Miss.; grandson, Gideon Johnson, Hammond; nephews, Jeffrey Battle and his wife, Julie, Gainesville, Ga., Jason Battle and his wife, Laura, Memphis, Tenn., Jesse Battle, Hattiesburg, Miss., Lars Battle, Queretaro, and Will Gunnell, Summit; and niece, Adrienne Palermo and her husband, Nick, O'Fallon, Mo. He was preceded in death by his parents, Orrin M. and Laura Groner Battle, Pass Christian, Miss.; niece, Allyson Gunnell, Summit; and nephew, Eric Battle, Alexandria, Va.
