Preceded in death by his granddaughter, Kimberly Tabb; and a brother, Paul Benefield. ************************************************************************* Obituary published in The Advocate (Baton Rouge): 6/17/2004 BENEFIELD, FRANK DOUGLAS Frank Douglas Benefield, age 78, died Tuesday, June 15, 2004, at North Oaks Medical Center, Hammond, after suffering complications from a second stroke in April. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, having served in the Bering Sea, near the Aleutian Islands. As a young country boy, Frank became a Christian and was baptized in the Tangipahoa River. He had a love for Gospel music and was a member of East Fork Baptist Church, East Fork, where he used to sing in the choir. An avid sportsman who dearly loved hunting and fishing, Frank Benefield taught many young people how to hunt and/or fish. He was the son of Eddie Washington Benefield Sr. and Amelia Kliesch Benefield, who were of the Greenlaw community of Kentwood and preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, E.W. "Dub" Benefield Jr., Paul Benefield and Walter Benefield. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Jerry Nell McGehee Benefield. They had made their home in the East Fork community in Kentwood for the past 35 years. Other survivors include three daughters, Carolyn Daniels Weaver and husband Frank of Atlanta, Darnell Benefield Strickland and husband Billy and Robbi Benefield Herrington and husband Tim, all of Kentwood; five grandchildren, Jason Daniels and wife Shelley and Tynessa Daniels Dacus and husband Brad of Atlanta, Chad Strickland and wife Stacey of Kentwood, Julie Daniels Johns and husband Michael of Charlotte, N.C., and Garrett Frank Herrington of Kentwood; a great-grandchild, Logan Strickland, Kentwood; a sister, Marie Bass of Mount Ida, Ark.; a brother, Roy Benefield of Osyka, Miss.; and numerous nieces and nephews. Herrington. She was the daughter of Holt and Gladys McDaniel McGehee, both of whom preceded her in death. She was born in Amite Co., Miss., at the home of her maternal grandfather. She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Frank Douglas Benefield. Survivors include three daughters, Robbi B. Herrington and her husband, Tim, and Darnell B. She liked working with her flowers and cooking for her family. For many years, she worked in the church nursery.
