He is also survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Clayton and Lois Bennett; nieces, Pasty Woster and Linda Binder; nephews, Bobby Joe Bennett and Rodney Bennett; very special great-nephew whom he helped raise, Taylor Bennett, of Atlanta; many other nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents, Frank M. and Jennie W. Bennett; sister, Merele Fortenberry; and brother, Clyde Bennett. Dr. Bennett practiced optometry in Denham Springs for 47 years. He attended Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, TN. He learned to fly airplanes with some friends when he was attending Southeastern University in Hammond. He was a member of the Army Air Corps during WWII. After the war, he was part owner of Tigerland Aviation teaching ground school at night and flying lessons during the day. He loved aerobatic flying. He also loved to play golf. Dr. Bennett was on the board of directors for the Louisiana State Association of Optometrists and was past president of the La. Lions Club. Dr. Bennett was never married and had no children. He was preceded in death by his only brother, Judge Raymond Starns Bennett, former Denham Springs City Court judge for many years. Judge Bennett's three children who are survived by him are Geoffrey Charles Bennett, O.D., and wife Susan of Duluth, MN, Stephen Walter Bennett of Baton Rouge, Barbara (Bebe) Bennett Perry and husband Andy of Baton Rouge. She was born in Chesbrough, but grew up in Kentwood, returning to her childhood home in the early 1980s. A retired social worker, Elaine worked in Louisiana, Kentucky, Arkansas and Arizona in the areas of child welfare, mental health and substance abuse.
