Edward 21 Feb 2001 Feb 2001 Don Johnson ************************************************************************* Obituary published in The Ponchatoula Enterprise on: 9/21/2005 BENSON, ROBERT WATSON, JR Robert Watson Benson, Jr., 77, an executive with Benson Automotive World and consultant for the New Orleans Saints, died Thursday, Sept 15, 2005, at his home. A native of New Orleans, he resided in Ponchatoula. He earned a bachelor degree in pharmacy from Loyola University in New Orleans with honors in 1947, received Loyola's most oustanding Athlete Award at age 19 and was a member of Loyola's Sports Hall of Fame. He began his carrer in retail pharmacy and retired from management in pharmaceutical sales with Parke Davis after 35 years. Survivors include his wife, Helen Leaumont Benson; four sons, Robert William Benson III of Ponchatoula, Mark Benson of Metairie, Patrick Benson of New York, NY, and James Benson of Kenner; two daughters, Paula Benson of Dallas and Karen Ramsay of Fairfax, VA; three sisters, Miriam B. Whitman, Valerie B. Hogan and Carol B. Hogan; one brother, Joseph Benson; 13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home was in charge. The Rev. Justin R. Kauchak, O.P. Officiated. Interment will be at a later date in Hope Mausoleum in New Orleans. EDWARD COLUMBUS, Ga. - W. Edward Benson, 93, died Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2001, at Muscogee Manor Nursing Home. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and retired from Southeastern Louisiana University. He was also a member of Grace Memorial Episcopal Church, Hammond, a 50-year member of the Livingston Lodge 160 F&AM, a member of the Fern Leaf Chapter 24 Order of Eastern Star, Hammond, a member of the American Legion Post 35 in Columbus, Ga., and a member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church since moving to Columbus. He is survived by a great niece, Leah M. Miesel Pike of Chantilly, Va.; and two great nephews. Private services will be held at Mitchell National Cemetery at a later date.
