Rev. 21:4. A longtime resident of Tickfaw, Adell passed away very peacefully at 6:56 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 12, 2009, at North Oaks Medical Center, Hammond. She fought courageously for life after breaking her leg from a fall six weeks ago. When she had almost recovered enough for her rehab, she suffered a stroke and died 10 days later. She was 91 and was a very courageous and independent lady. She loved the Lord, Jesus Christ, with all her heart and we know now that she is dancing with angels with no more pain. Praise Jesus! She crotched, knitted, tatted and embroidered many beautiful things in her lifetime. Many people have received gifts of her beautiful work. She loved gardening in her younger days and continued to raise beautiful flowers as she grew older. She also loved her wild birds and fed them every morning. Butterflies were another of her great interests and she had them displayed all over her home. We found in her remembrances this writing: "The Butterfly:" The butterfly has long been depicted in Christian art as an appropriate symbol of the resurrection and of the believer's share in Christ's victory over the grave. As an unattractive and earthbound worm, the creature enters its cocoon for a deathlike sleep. But it bursts from the "tomb" gloriously transformed into a beautiful butterfly. She was the beloved wife of the late Edward Benton and beloved mother of Jerry Benton and the late Vernon Benton. Also surviving her are two daughters-in-law, Ann Benton, wife of Jerry, and Judy Benton, wife of the late Vernon. She had six grandchildren, Laurie and husband Gordon Mosher, Sharon and husband Charles McDonnell, David and wife Patty Benton, Michael Benton, Mark Benton, and Michelle and husband Bryan Domingue. She had 13 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters. She was a member and past Worthy Matron of Independent Chapter 247 of the Eastern Star in Independence. Friends will be received on Monday, Sept. 14, at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home, Hammond, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Tuesday from 8 a.m. until funeral service at 11 a.m. Interment in Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery, Tickfaw. An online guest book is available at www.harrymckneely.com. ************************************************************************* Obituary published in The Hammond Vindicator: 10/19/1934 BENTON, NORA WILSON 19 Oct 1934; p. 2, col. 3: Mrs. M.
