COVINGTON - Robert A. Berlin, 85, died Sunday, Jan. 6, 2002. He was a native of Lake Charles and a retired lieutenant colonel in the Army during World War II. He was a graduate of Holy Cross High School and Southeastern Louisiana College. He was a member of the Washington Artillery, president of the first St. Tammany Planning Commission and the parish engineer. He was also a parishioner of St. Maurice Church in Arabi and a Benedictine Oblate of St. Joseph Abbey. He taught religious education at St. Peter, St. John the Baptist and St. Benedict churches and was active in the St. Peter prayer group. He is survived by four sons, Robert D., Richard R., Dennis M., Timothy D.; four daughters, Theresa M. Berlin, Mary Ann Genre, Aline McCaughn, Margaret Trapani Soniat; siblings, Daniel S. Berlin, Francis X. Berlin; 19 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Aline Hayes Berlin; a son, John H. Berlin; and his parents, Frank S. and Beulah Champagne Berlin. Visitation will be today from 6 to 9 p.m. at E.J. Fielding Funeral Home, 2260 W. 21st Ave., Covington, and Wednesday from 1 p.m. until Mass at St. Joseph Abbey, St. Benedict, at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Joseph Abbey, St. Benedict, 70457.
