He was a native of Dutchtown and a retired operator with the Pontchartrain Levee Board. He is survived by his wife, Lucy Dell Pittman Berteau of Ponchatoula; a daughter, Christine Beauchamp of Ponchatoula; a step-daughter, Janice Bergeron of Prairieville; two step- sons, Stanley and Billy Berteau, both of Gonzales; three sisters, Mildred B. Delhommer, Lucille B. Evans and Lily Mae Brown, all of Dutchtown; three brothers, Soley, Freddie and Milton Berteau, all of Dutchtown; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse and Eleanor "Lina" Melancon Berteau; two brothers, Lawless "Doodle" Berteau and Yean "Cannonball" Berteau. He served with distinction as a paratrooper in the famed 101st Airborne Division during WW II where he took part in key battles across Western Europe. He was decorated for his bravery and for his sacrifice with two Purple Hearts. America lost another member of The Greatest Generation. He was retired from Copolymer Rubber Plant.
