A loving husband, father and grandfather, he left this world to be with the Lord on Saturday, June 19, 2004. He was 84, born May 4, 1920, in Maurepas, and was a resident of Baton Rouge for more than 50 years. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Marjie Crane Berthelot; two sisters, Loney Guitreau of Maurepas and Relia Picou of Ponchatoula; three daughters and two sons- in-law, Barbara and Michael Underwood of Baton Rouge, Monica Berthelot of Biloxi, Miss., and Christina and Greg Peck of Baton Rouge; two sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Susan Berthelot of Oscar and Stefan and Brandi Berthelot of Watson; nine grandchildren, Chip Glass, Jennifer Falcon, Ben Glass, Claire, Emily, Kenda and London Berthelot and Lauren and Christopher Peck; a great-grandchild, Christina Glass; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Octave and Mathilde Sanchez Berthelot; a son, Christopher Ray Berthelot; four brothers, Arthur, Roy, Quave and Dennis Berthelot; and four sisters, Mattie Fontenot, Octavie Picou, Elvina Chatelain and Florella Welch. Visitation at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday, with a vigil prayer service at 6:30 p.m., conducted by the Rev. Joey Angeles, and recitation of the rosary at 8:30 p.m. Visitation at the funeral home from 8 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. Tuesday. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Stephen's Catholic Church, Maurepas, at 11 a.m. Tuesday, conducted by the Rev. Rubin Reynolds. Burial in Whitehall Community Cemetery. Mr. Berthelot was a decorated veteran of World War II and was awarded the Bronze Star, Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal and four battle stars. He was a member of the 79th Infantry Division 45 and participated in the Normandy Invasion and the Battle of the Bulge. He was a member of American Legion Post 254 and Veterans of Foreign Wars. Mr. Berthelot was an operating engineer and was employed at Kaiser Aluminum Corp. in Baton Rouge for 35 years until his retirement in 1982. He was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers. Mr. Berthelot was a member of St. Jean Vianney Catholic Church, where he served as an usher for many years and was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 9247. Elmo Patrick Berthelot Jr., 86 years old of Ponchatoula, Louisiana, died January 19, 2011 at his home in Ponchatoula. He was born on September 5, 1924, in Ponchatoula, son of the late Elmo Patrick and Rose Berthelot Sr . Mr. Berthelot served 4 years as a Merchant Marine during World War II and was a member of American Legion Post #47, Knights of Columbus Council #4874 and St. Joseph Catholic Church in Ponchatoula. He served as President of the local Chapter of the AARP and was on the Louisiana Legislative Council on Aging. He was a retired Foreman for Monsanto Chemical Company. Mr. Berthelot was a loving husband and father, an advocate for the elderly, an avid outdoorsman and loved growing flowers and gardening. Surviving are his wife of 63 years Eugenia Dunn Berthelot; 2 daughters Deborah Berthelot Scioneaux & Diana Berthelot; 5 grandchildren Mylessa, Chance, Dustin, Casey & Carey; 7 great-grandchildren, Bryanna, Chloe, Colton , Caleb, Addison & Brady and soon to be Conner also numerous nieces, nephews and great nieces and great nephews.
