She was born Nov. 7, 1935, in St. Helena Parish. She was an avid LSU and Saints fan, a retiree from the East Louisiana State Hospital after 32 years of service and worked at St. Helena Hospital for 10 years. Visitation at McKneely Funeral Home, Kentwood, on Monday, Nov. 27, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Visiting continues at the funeral home on Tuesday from 8 a.m. until religious service at 11 a.m., conducted by the Rev. Danny Smith and the Rev. Charles Dean. She is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Jimmy Williams, Danette and Farron Sibley, and Carla and Shelton Day; a son, Keith Birch; daughter-in-law, Darlene Birch; 20 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, special friends, Mildred Birch, Marie McClendon and Velma Kliesch; her devoted pet and companion, Ju Ju; and numerous friends and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Birch; parents, Kinchen Bridges and Evie Donahoe; sister, Margaret Nell Bridges; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Bennie and Mary Bridges and Clifton and Evelyn Bridges; stepfather, Robert Donahoe; stepsister, Mae Evelyn Donahoe; and an infant great-grandchild, Natalie Birch. The family would like to thank Dr. Jimmy Varnado and her caretakers. At her request, cremation will follow the funeral service. She was 84. Visiting at St. Jude the Apostle Catholic Church, 9150 Highland Road, on Monday, Nov. 9, from 10 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m., celebrated by the Rev. Trey Nelson. Interment in Roselawn Memorial Park. Survived by her children, Bill Birch and his wife, Jane, of Courtland, Miss., Susann Birch Jolissaint and her husband, Larry, of Baton Rouge, Dan Birch, of Plano, Texas, and Nancy Pevey and her husband, Chuck, of Baton Rouge; and eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by her husband, Hollis Birch; daughter, Rebecca Birch; parents, Emile and Nell Schilling; and brother, Fred Schilling. Pallbearers will be Jeff Birch, Joe Jolissaint, Bradley Pevey, Blake Birch, Sonny Smoke and David Smith. Ben Birch is honorary pallbearer.
