She was a native of Ponchatoula, a member of Nova Stella Chapter #36 Order of the Easter Star as past matron, Immanuel Temple #91, Daughters of the Nile, Kenner/Destrehan, Mavis Royer Memorial Court 18, Order of Amaranth as past royal matron, Tangipahoa Shrinettes, Daughters of Desert, Arabian Ladies, Jerusalem Temple Widows Club, Lady Bugs, Oriental Charmers, Martha White Shrine #1, Sojourner Joy Club. Survivors include two daughters, Diane "Cissie" Blackmon Figura, Ponchatoula, Joy Kay Blackmon, Charlotte, N.C.; son, Larry W. Blackmon, Springfield; sister, Eloise Coggins, Wilmer; two brothers, Roger Ryals, Wilmer, Lavell Ryals, Big Springs, Texas; four grandchildren, four step- randchildren and a great-grandchild. Her husband, Joyce "Bit" Blackmon; and brother, Prentice Ryals, preceded her in death Visitation will be at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home, Ponchatoula, Wednesday from 6 until 10 p.m. with Eastern Star, Amaranth and Nile services beginning at 7 p.m. and Thursday from 8 a.m. until the funeral at 1 p.m. The Rev. Charles Bigner will conduct the service, and entombment will be in Ponchatoula Mausoleum. A native of Ponchatoula and resident of Springfield, he served with the U.S. Navy in Vietnam and worked as a river boat pilot with Pine Bluff Sand and Gravel. Survivors include his wife, Roxanne Fletcher Blackmon, Springfield; his two sons, Eric Robertson and Grant Blackmon, both of Springfield; his daughter, Ashley Pete, Springfield; and his two sisters, Joy K. Blackmon, North Carolina, and Priscilla Diane Figura, Ponchatoula. His parents, Joyce E. and Juanita Ryals Blackmon, preceded him in death. A memorial service will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. today at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home in Ponchatoula. *************************************************************************** Obituary published in The Hammond Daily Star on: 9/18/2002 BLACKMON, MAYO CLARENCE Roanoke, Ala. - Mayo Clarence Blackmon, 94, died Monday, Sept. 16, 2002, in Hammond. He was born in Marshall County, Ala., and was a member of the Roanoke Masonic Lodge. He was an electrician with Handley Textile Mills. He is survived by one daughter, Alice Farvet of Hammond; two grandchildren and three great- grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Alice Kimbel Blackmon; and his wife, Dessie Fetner Blackmon. Visitation will be Friday at Quattlebaum Funeral Home, Roanoke, Ala., from 5 to 8 p.m. The Rev. Billy Fetner will conduct the funeral Saturday at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at Randolph Memory Gardens with a Masonic graveside service. ***************************************************************************
