He was 88 and a retired agriculture teacher of 40 years at Loranger High School, an Army veteran of World War II and coached Little League baseball for many years. He was a member of Oak Grove Church of Christ, the Loranger American Legion post and a past member of Loranger Ruritan Club. Mr. Blalock won numerous medals in the Senior Olympics. He was a Future Farmers of America adviser and avid hunter. He played football, ran track and played baseball at Southeastern Louisiana University. Visitation at McKneely Funeral Home, Amite, on Wednesday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Visitation will continue at Oak Grove Church of Christ, Independence, on Thursday, Oct. 8, from 9 a.m. until religious services at 10:30 a.m., conducted by Brother Dale Ziebarth. Interment in Loranger Cemetery, Loranger. He is survived by wife of 61 years, Vertalee Hayden Blalock, Loranger; two brothers, Leon Blalock and Charlie Blalock, both of Alexandria; two sisters, Francis McCain, Chicago, and Essie Marie Smith, Alexandria; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by father and mother, James Marion Blalock and Mary Essie Stewart Blalock; a brother, James Marion Blalock Jr.; and two sisters, Maude Jones and Elizabeth Moreaux. Visitation will be Sunday, Dec. 27, from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Liberty, Miss., and Monday, Dec. 28, from 9 a.m.. until service at 10 a.m., with Bishop Ronnie Blalock and Elder Merle Blalock officiating. Burial in the Blalock Family Cemetery. Mrs. Blalock was born March 26, 1943, in Liberty, the daughter of the late Herbert David and Ruby May Lilly Hodges. Mrs. Blalock was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Liberty, and a member of the Eastern Star. She was a seamstress and a custodian, and loved to knit. She graduated from Liberty High School, Class of 1962. But most of all, she was a caregiver; her family said she never met a stranger and was a servant of the Lord. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Janice Mason and Maxine Hodges. Survivors include her husband, William Kenneth Blalock, of Liberty; two sons and their spouses, William K. and Lydia Blalock, of Princeton. N.J., and John Earl and Rebecca Blalock of Pickerington, Ohio; two daughters Louise Jacobsen of Watson, and Michelle Foster and husband Joel, of Meadville, Miss.; brother, Herbert David Hodges Jr. and wife Sherry, of Foxworth, Miss.; seven sisters, Edna Blalock, of Liberty, Ethel Voight, of Amite, Annie Pearl Brooks, of Liberty, Lucille Israel and husband Varnell, of Moss Point, Miss., Elsie Pittman and husband Barney, of Foxworth, Polly Stinson and husband Robert, of Magnolia, and Beverly Oliver and husband Terry, of Kentwood; 14 grandchildren, Jennifer Gould, Christopher Jacobsen, Julie Jacobsen, Lindsey Long, Aaron Long, Kelsey Long, Kenneth Blalock III, Colin Blalock, Adam Blalock, Kara Blalock, Daniel Blalock, Mattie Blalock, Austin Foster and Ariel Foster; two great-grandchildren, Haylee and Dylan Gould; and numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Christopher Jacobsen, Kenny Blalock, Johnny Blalock, Austin Foster, Aaron Long, Colin Blalock and Adam Blalock.
