A native and resident of Hammond, he died Monday, Dec. 28, 1998, at North Oaks Medical Center, Hammond. He was 72. Visiting was at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home, Hammond, 6 p.m. to 9 p.m Tuesday. Visiting at the funeral home, 8 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. Wednesday. Religious services at Holy Ghost Catholic Church, Hammond, at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, conducted by a Dominican priest. Interment in Greenlawn Cemetery. Survived by wife, Katherine "Katie" Costanza Bonura, Hammond; a daughter, Karen Bonura DePaula, Hammond; a son, Ben Bonura, Hammond; two grandchildren, Ashley Marie DePaula and Scott Michael DePaula; and a sister, Manuella B. Ribando, Marrero. Preceded in death by parents, Benjamin and Genieve Bretillo Bonura; two children, Elizabeth Bonura and Nick Bonura Jr.; and a brother, Anthony Bonura. *************************************************************************** Obituary published in the Hammond Daily Star on: 3/9/2013 BONURA, ROBERT B. Robert Bonura ended his decade-long battle with cancer on March 3, 2013. A veteran of 23 years in the Army, retiring as a master sergeant, he had recently retired from the U.S. Post Office. A native of Hammond and a graduate of Hammond High, Robert lived the past 24 years in Hawaii. Robert is survived by a wife her daughter and his mother Bobbie Breechen of Louisiana and four childern, Shirley Bonura Moreau of North Carolina, Benjamin of Louisiana, Tony and Nicholas both of Hawaii. Also three brothers, Anthony Jr of Louisiana, Emanuel of Colorado, Lionel of Louisiana, and a sister Mondra Laughlin of Iowa. Also survived by nine grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. Robert was preceeded in death by his father Anthony Sr, and his sister Linda both of Louisiana.
