They lived in New Orleans for many years before residing for 30 years in Ponchatoula prior to Muriel's death in 2007. He departed his earthly life on Saturday, Nov. 4, 2000. He was born June 4, 1929, the youngest son among 10 children of Joel Menton and Addie Williams Bridges, who were of Kentwood. He married his loving wife, Evelyn Dolores Rushing, of Magnolia, Miss., on June 26, 1951, in Magnolia. He was born on his father's dairy farm in Kentwood and started his lifelong dairy career milking cows in his father's dairy. He never worked at just one career. He worked as a carpenter and built a home for his family. In 1953, he started driving a school bus for the Tangipahoa Parish School Board and retired 32 years later in 1985. In 1952, he started his own dairy on his father's farm. In 1956, he began shipping milk from his own dairy farm. He was a very successful dairyman who won many awards. He was awarded a certificate from the Louisiana Bankers Association in soil conservation. He was elected a community member of the Parish Agriculture Stabilization Committee. He also received several awards from the LSU Agriculture Extension Service. He was selected as grand marshal of the 1992 Kentwood Dairy Festival Parade, a grand honor which he wore with great pride and dignity. He enjoyed his beautiful Tangipahoa Parish countryside, where he worked with his bird dogs and hunted quail and doves. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Evelyn Rushing Bridges of Kentwood; three sons, Johnny Rae Bridges of Dalton, Ga., and Daryl Kennoth and wife Linda Sue Booty Bridges, and Randal Lee Bridges, all of Kentwood; a daughter, Teresa Gail Bridges Holmes and husband Donald Brian Holmes of Clinton; five grandchildren, Bodie Kennoth, Whitley Bryce and Brance Lee Bridges, and Holt and Chesley Lane Holmes; two brothers, Dale and Russell Bridges, both of Kentwood; and a sister, Loray B. Pike of Tangipahoa. He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Odessa, .D., Dalton and Barney Bridges; two sisters, Mennee B. Carter and Clytie B. Chandler; and a grandchild, Michael James Bridges. He had a deep abiding love for God, his family and his Tangipahoa Baptist Church, where he was ordained a deacon on Nov. 7, 1993. To those who knew him, he will be remembered for his kindness, compassion and willingness to put others before himself. He will be greatly missed. Visitation at McKneely Funeral Home, Kentwood, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday and 8 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday. A celebration of his life will be held at Tangipahoa Baptist Church, Tangipahoa, at 11 a.m. Tuesday. Burial in Tangipahoa Cemetery. Pallbearers will be his nephews, James Cutrer, T.W. Chandler Jr., Barry Bridges, Brad Bridges, George Ray Pike and Todd Covington.
