He was born on Tuesday, Aug. 13, 1918, in Little Rock, Ark. Mr. Bright was the oldest living deacon at Woodland Park Baptist Church. Surviving are his wife of 28 years, Lydia Eugenie Jenkins Bright; son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Jan Tourant; grandchildren, Lloyd and Eric Tournet and Paul Hebert; great-granddaughter, Katherine Addison Hebert; three sisters, Betty Ruth Boatwright, Beatrice Killen and Lorene Varnell; and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents, William Arthur Bright and Willie Harrison Bright; and sister, Dorothy Barton. Friends will be received at the Woodland Park Baptist Church, Hammond, on Wednesday, Jan. 28, from 9 a.m. until service at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Pete Charpentier officiating. He was 75 and a native of Bogalusa. Visiting at Springfield First United Methodist Church, Springfield, from noon Saturday until memorial service at 2 p.m. Mr. Bright requested his body be donated to the LSU Medical School in New Orleans. On May 29th, 2008, she went home to reside in the mansion that was promised to her. She is survived by one brother, Authur (Mary) Thayer of New Orleans, 5 children, Donald (Dorothy) Bright of Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, Clarence Bright of Natalbany, La, Anna Gates of Wadsworth, Ohio, Perry Bright of Springfield and Edna (James) Kennedy of Franklinton, La, 6 nephews, 15 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren, plus tons of friends. She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, the late Donald U. Bright. Her father and mother, the late George and Annie Thayer, her daughter Frances Murphy, a grandson, Patrick Murphy and a great-grandson infant, Justin Murphy. The family wishes to thank the people of Minden, the staff and crew of the Minden Recreational Complex, Minden Medical Center, the staff of Willis-Knighton North and everyone else who made Mrs. Bright's last years of living delightful. She never met a stranger and would always be a blessing with her love and stories of her past. She will be truly missed but always joyfully remembered.
