He was 89 and a native of Sumrall, Miss. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. Visitation was at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home, Hammond, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday. Visitation in the funeral home chapel from 8 a.m. until religious service at 11 a.m. Thursday, conducted by the Rev. Leon Dunn. Interment in Rose Memorial Cemetery, Hammond. Preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Molly Drennans Broome; four brothers, Elmo, Fred, Lonnie and J.W. Broome; and a sister, Mae Broome Morris. He was a member and deacon of Woodland Park Baptist Church, Hammond, and a member of the Sumrall Masonic Order. Broome Sr., a resident of Kentwood, died Monday, June 2, 2008, at Southwest Mississippi Medical Center in McComb, Miss. He was 71. After graduating from Kentwood High School in 1957, Willie chose a career in the U.S. Marine Corps, serving with distinction until 1977, retiring as a gunnery sergeant. Willie is survived by his wife, Sarah Roland Broome, Kentwood; two daughters, Kelley Gingles and husband Roger and Wendy Weigel, all of Baton Rouge; and two sisters, Elizabeth Parker and husband Myron, Poplarville, Miss., and Bessie Hayden, Amite. He was also blessed with three grandchildren, Melanie Zeringue, Jeffery Weigel and Rachael Gingles. Preceded in death by his parents, Willis and Verna Broome; son, Willie M. Broome Jr.; and sister, Mary Strickland and husband J.W.
