Nelda retired from a career as a legal secretary to enjoy traveling, bowling and fishing with her husband and spending time on the Internet. On Wednesday morning, Jan. 26, 2011, Norma Brown departed her earthly home. Norma Brown was born Dec. 29, 1942, in Independence, the oldest child of James and Evelyn Gordon Bradford. She completed her early education in East Baton Rouge Parish and at Southern University Laboratory School. She was a member of the class of 1960. Norma graduated from Southern University in 1964 with a bachelor's degree in education and earned a master's degree from LSU. She did further study at the University of Kansas and taught for 33 years until retiring in 1998. Norma was a 56-year member of Camphor Memorial United Methodist Church, a former member of the chancel choir, a co-chair of the fellowship committee, a member of the United Methodist Women, Educators of Yester Year, Seniors on the Go and Shell Geismar Area Retirees Club. On Aug. 14, 1971, Norma was united in marriage to Willie Brown. They were the parents of four children. Norma is survived by her spouse, Willie Brown; a daughter, Wharena Pfeister and husband Allen; and sons, William Brown and wife Jade, Tory Brown and wife Kenya, and Trey Brown; a sister, Barbara Brown and husband Isadore; brother, James A.
