"BO" Retired from Chevron Oil Co. with 33 years of service and a resident of Baton Rouge, he died Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2003. He was 76, a former resident of Ponchatoula and a native of Quincy, Ill. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. Cryptside service in Ponchatoula Memorial Mausoleum at 11 a.m. Saturday, conducted by Steve Varnado and Robert Callihan. Survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Helen Callihan Brunner; four sisters, Lucille Minton of Denham Springs, Francis Gilbert of Omaha, Neb., Ann Temple of Ponchatoula and Betty Vining of Bedico; and two brothers, Charles L. Brunner of Brusly and William J. Brunner of Houston. Preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Emma Brunner; a brother, Tommy Brunner; and two sisters, Sybil Bardwell and Jeanette Stanga. Pallbearers will be Russell Dilly, James Minton, C.H. Callihan Sr., and Gary, Neal and Brian Todd Callihan. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association. Welsh Funeral Home, Gonzales, in charge of arrangements. *************************************************************************** Obituary published in The Hammond Daily Star: 8/4/2009 BRUNNER, HELEN CALLIHAN Helen Callihan, Brunner 83, a resident of La Plantation retirement Community in Denham Springs, LA passed away on Friday July 31, 2009. She was a retired employee of the LSU department of food science with 25 years of services as an administrative secretary where she received the LSU Outstanding Employee for Excellence Award. A memorial service will be held at Ponchatoula Cemetery on Tuesday August 4, 2009 at 10:00am. Entombment will follow. She is survived by her brother, Clinton "Bud" Callihan; devoted niece Sandra C. Varnado and many more nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 57 years, Albert; precious cat, Lucky; mother and father, Herman and Julia Callihan; sisters, Frances C. Melvin George Brunner, Jr., loving husband, father and brother passed away with his wife and son at his side while in the Southern Arizona Veterans Hospital (Tucson, AZ) on the evening of July 8, 2012. Born in New Orleans, Louisiana to Melvin George Brunner, Sr., and Myrtle Heitzmann Brunner on July 16, 1935 he is survived by his wife Mary Lynne Hammond Brunner (Green Valley, AZ), son Brant Brunner (Boulder, CO), sister Janice Dunnington (Loranger, LA), nephews Richard, Randy, Bruce Dunnington (Loranger, LA), niece Rhonda Dunnington Smith (Loranger, LA), brother-in-law Ray W. Hammond, wife Bonnie (Albuquerque, NM), and niece Caitlin Hammond (Albuquerque, NM). After graduating from Loranger High School, Mel enlisted in the United States Marine Corp where he served 2 years stationed in Okinawa, Japan. After an Honorable Discharge, he obtained a degree from Southeastern Louisiana College in Hammond, Louisiana. In 1969, Mel moved out west to Albuquerque where he would eventually meet Mary Lynne Hammond and marry in March 1972. In November 1973, Mel and Mary Lynne were blessed with their only child, Brant. In 1975, Mel purchased Carney Insurance Agency in Gallup, New Mexico which he sold in 2000. Upon selling his business, Mel and Mary Lynne retired to Quail Creek Golf Resort in sunny Green Valley, Arizona to enjoy his love of golf. A "Celebration of Mel's Life" service will be held at Quail Creek Clubhouse in Green Valley, Arizona on Friday, October 5, 2012. William J. (Bill) Brunner, 84, passed away on March 29, 2010 in Houston, Texas. Bill was born November 28, 1925 in Quincy, Illinois to the late William and Emma Brunner. He was from a large family being one of ten children. He graduated from Ponchatoula High School and received his Prosthetic Certification from UCLA. Bill served in WWII, and received the Purple Heart for service at Iwo Jima in 1945, resulting in the loss of a leg. He lived the majority of his life in Houston and worked for Muilenburg Prosthetics for 52 years. Bill loved to work with wood, leather and other crafts. He was a man of God and served his Lord, Family and Country for 84 wonderful years. Bill is now running foot races on 2 good legs on the streets of gold. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Dr. Celeste Walker Brunner; four children, Janice R. Sharp and husband Jim, Stephen J. Brunner and wife Sherri, Lori L. Morris and husband Glenn, and William (Bill) A. Brunner; thirteen grandchildren, Phillip Davis, Rebecca Hartsfield, Iris Sharp, Stacy McComb, Lisa Anderson, Erin Nally, Brandon Nally, Jake Brunner, Ty Brunner, Kendall Brunner, Julie Morris, Garrett Morris, and Ryan Morris; six great-grandchildren, Hannah Hartsfield, Hunter Hartsfield, Logan Brunner, Eli Anderson, Abby McComb, Carter McComb; brother, Charles Brunner; sisters, Frances Gilbert and Betty Vinning; multiple nieces and nephews; countless friends and family.
