She was a retired employee of Jr. Food Mart Inc. where she worked for 25 years. She is survived by her parents, James and Pauline Smith of Belle Chasse; a son, Richard Burchfield of Pearl, Miss.; a daughter, Dana LeCoq of San Antonio; a sister, Jimmie Gail Cherry of Detroit; and one grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dan Burchfield. A graveside service will be today at 2 p.m. in the Springfield Cemetery. She worked for many years as a hair dresser, medical assistant and notary, and was known for being ambitious and independent by all who knew her. With a great sense of humor and passion for living life to the fullest, she enjoyed boating, skiing and traveling with her family. Sharon and her mother had a special bond and she wished to express, "Fifty-six years old and still, my mom is the greatest thing, best friend, she is no fake. She is my mother, my best friend in the whole world! I love you Mama!" Furthermore, Sharon wanted to share a special poem about her mother, Walk With Me, Mama. "Walk alongside me, Mama, And hold my little hand. I have so many things to learn That I don't yet understand. Teach me things to keep me safe From the dangers everyday. Show me how to do my best, At home, at school, at play. Every child needs a gentle hand To guide them as they grow. So walk alongside me, Mama." Sharon is survived by her mother, Clarity Tuttle; half-sister, Carol; brothers, Carter, Barron and Donald; half-brother, Steve. Preceding her in death were her father, Carter Norwood Purvis, Sr.; brother, Ronald; half-brother, Michael. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend visitation from the chapel of Brandon G. Thompson Funeral Home of Ponchatoula on Friday, July 19, 2013 from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and again on Saturday, July 20, 2013 from 9:00 a.m. until the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Rev.
