He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Anna Cannaday Burns, son William Edmond Burns of Larto, and daughters Anna Maria Burns of Lecompte, and Judy Carolyn Burns-Gray and her husband, Page Gray and son, Page Burns Gray of Crowley. Ed was preceded in death by his eldest son, Gregory Cannaday Burns, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Edmond Daly Burns of Ponchatoula, and his sister, Vee B. Wall of Denham Springs. Ed was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church. He and Anna were married at the original church site in downtown Alexandria by EdŐs uncle Rev. Gustav Gatzke, in 1947. Ed graduated from Louisiana State University, School of Forestry. He retired from the Louisiana Office of Forestry as Chief of Forest Management. Upon retirement, he formed Burns Land Management, a forest consulting service. Ed served as Lieutenant in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the Pacific and European Theatres. He received officerŐs training at Notre Dame University and Tulane University. He retired from the Naval Reserve, having served as a commander of the Alexandria Naval Reserve Station. He and Anna formed the reunion organization of his shipmates on the USS Sirona AKA 43. Ed was a Fellow in the Society of American Foresters. He served on the Board of Trustees of the Southern Forest Heritage Museum at Long Leaf, LA. He shared his interest of the history of the Louisiana timber industry with Anna, as well as their love of world travel. At home, Ed was known for sharing the harvest of his garden, blueberries and camellias. He was also a great LSU Tiger fan, attending football games for over 60 years. Services for Ed will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, October 27, 2009 in the chapel of John Kramer & Son with Rev. Robert Martinek officiating, pastor of Redeemer Lutheran church. Visitation will be held from 8:30 a.m. until time of service Tuesday at John Kramer & Son. Interment will be in Alexandria Memorial Gardens, Alexandria. She received a life PTA membership in 1963. She was a past president of the advisory board of the Hammond Senior Center and was Senior of the Year in 1998. She regularly chaperoned the high school's girl volleyball and basketball teams as well as the teenage dances throughout the city.
