ELRIDGE "PETE" Captain Elridge "Pete" Burnthorne, 82, of Husser, LA died Friday, January 29, 2010, in Landmark Nursing Home. He was born April 5, 1927 in Osceola, LA to Luke & Mary Ann Reid Burnthorne. He was captain of an ocean going vessel by the age of 26 and retired in 1992. He was a Channel Pilot with the Houston Pilots Association and a pilot for Sinclair Oil. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Mary Loftin Burnthorne; 1 daughter & son-in-law, Lisa Burnthorne Morse and husband Dave; 1 son & daughter-in- law, Gary Lee Burnthorne and wife, Johnna; 5 grandchildren, Dawn Burdick, Shawn Morse, Leigh Ashley Burnthorne, Alex Louis Burnthorne, and Philip Joseph Burnthorne; 4 great-grandchildren; 1 sister, Alice Richart; 2 brothers, Louis & Luke Burnthorne and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents; 3 sisters, Gladys Cucinella, Wilmer Scott, Mearl Martello Canzoneri; 2 brothers, Albert and J.D. Burnthorne. Friends will be received Sunday, January 31, 2010, at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home in Hammond from 12 Noon until the funeral service at 2:00 P.M. in the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow in Noah Cemetery, Husser. She was a native of New Orleans and a retired PBX operator. Survivors include three daughters, Cathy Roberts, Karen B. Fayard and Kelly Freeman, all of Metairie; two sisters, Barbara Touchstone of Amite and Audrey Crawford of Baton Rouge; one brother, W.R. "Mike" Lewis of Birmingham, Ala.; two grandchildren; and her former husband, Albert Burnthorne of Metairie. She was preceded in death by her parents, Toye and Ernestine Lewis. Visitation will be today at McKneely Funeral Home, Amite, from 6 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday from 8 a.m. until the Rev.
