A native of Natalbany, she was the eighth of nine children born to Annie Hanks and James Womack Cabler. She was a member of Natalbany Baptist Church and in recent years atteneded University Baptist Church in Baton Rouge. she was predeceased by her parents, eight siblings, husband, Richard Byrd; and son-in-law, Kelton Whitehead.
