She was born Saturday, Feb. 5, 1921, in New Orleans, daughter of the late Cleveland J. Brien and the late May Claire Rolling Brien. Mrs. Calamari was a member of the Kappa Delta Pi Honor Society. She received her undergraduate degree, bachelor of arts, from Loyola University, where she graduated Maxima Cum Laude and received her master's of education in supervision and administration from University of New Orleans. She was a teacher for the Archdiocese of New Orleans prior to moving to the Orleans Parish School System where she held positions as a teacher, assistant principal and principal. Surviving are three sons, Peter J. Calamari III of Hammond, Michael P. Calamari Sr. of Metairie, and Paul D. Calamari of Harrisburg, Pa.; sister, Janet Brien Fricke of Kenner; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Peter J. Calamari Jr.; two sisters, Aimee Brien Vath and May Claire Brien Laiche; and a brother, Cleveland J. Brien Jr. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at Our Lady of Pompeii Catholic Church on Saturday, Sept. 10, 2005, at noon with the Rev. Jose David, celebrant. Temporary interment followed at Rose Memorial Park Cemetery Mausoleum. Final interment will be in the Greenwood Cemetery, New Orleans, at a future date. E-mail condolences to ccalamari@charter.net.
