"JOE" A builder and developer and a resident of Baton Rouge, he died at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, 2008, at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center. He was 85, a resident of Baton Rouge and a native of Tickfaw. Visiting at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Highway, on Monday, Jan. 14, was from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Visiting resumes at the funeral home Tuesday from 9 a.m. until religious service at 10 a.m., conducted by the Rev. Gerard Martin. He is survived by seven daughters and six sons-in-law, Cheryl and Juan Gueringer, Pam Calandro and Randy Bedell, Paula Calandro, Jody and Jay Kaiser, Tracy and Kevin Fitzgerald, Marcie and Don Miller and Angie and Johnny West; two sons and daughters-in-law, Joseph Jr. and Karen Calandro and Christopher and Christiann Calandro; three sisters, Camille Spitale, Rosalie Crawford and Catherine Hoffman; two brothers, Frank Calandro and Sam Calandro; 19 grandchildren, Carrie Ursini, Laura Gueringer, Bonnie Boyd, David and Daniel Sibley, Grace and Paul Emden, Jordan, Sarah and Michael Kaiser, Haley and Jake Fitzgerald, Mary Catherine, Shawn, Adam and Lizzie Miller and Ally, Katie and Mary Calandro; and four great-grand- children, Brayden, Bryce, Reese and Ben Boyd. He was preceded in death by his parents, Santo and Caterina Calandro; wife, Bettie Carroll Calandro; sister, Mary Inzenga; and brothers, Brazil Calandro, Vick Calandro and Tony Calandro. A retired servant to the elderly, she was a parishioner of St. Louis King of France Catholic Church. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Bobbie Calandro; her children, Debbie Carmichael and husband Brian, Tommy Calandro and wife Michele, all of Baton Rouge, Bobbie Jean Hayes and husband Kelly and Jackie Calandro and companion Jennifer Thomas, all of Walker; brothers, Kelly, Joe, J.C., Russell and Larry Santangelo; grandchildren, Jeanne Carbo, Robyn Alford, Brett, Stacy and Leigh-Ann Curtis, Lori Springman, Royce Martin, Sam Moore, Kelley and Lauren Calandro, and Jake Thomas; and seven great-grandchildren. She was the daughter of the late Tony and Frances Santangelo and the sister of the late Tony Santangelo, Mary Shelton and Sena St. Angelo. Visiting at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., was on Sunday, Oct. 14, from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. Visiting at the funeral home on Monday, Oct. 15, from 8 a.m. until 11:45 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at St. Louis King of France Catholic Church, 2121 N. She was a native of Independence and a resident of Baton Rouge for 61 years. She was co-founder and owner of Calandro's Supermarket, Inc. in Baton Rouge. She was a member of Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church, Catholic Daughters, Court Marie Louise No. 60, was one of the original organizers of Associated Grocers and was a past member of Affiliated Foods. She is survived by four sons, S.A. "Sonny" Calandro, Blaise Calandro, Charles Calandro and Mark Calandro, all of Baton Rouge; a sister, Bessie D. Giannobile; and two brothers, Joseph D' Anna; nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Brazil Calandro; a brother, Joseph D'Anna Sr.; and her parents, Isabelle Currier D'Anna and Angelo D'Anna. Visitation will be Sunday at Rabenhorst East Funeral Home, Baton Rouge, from 1 to 6 p.m. with recitation of rosary at 4 and Monday at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church at 9 a.m. until a Mass of Christian burial at 10.
