"JAY" He fought the good fight, finished the race, and kept the faith. On Monday evening, June 27, 2011, Floyd Joseph "Jay" Callais Jr. went to greet his Lord. He was best known to family and friends as "Jay" and was born in New Orleans on Feb. 17, 1950, and living in Robert, he started his career with the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office, New Orleans Police Department K-9 officer and retired as sergeant with the Hammond Police Department. Jay received multiple awards and honors throughout his career. His hobbies were his family. He was the beloved husband of 23 years to Sallie Branch Callais. He is also survived by his daughters, Lisa Callais, Michelle Andrews and husband Tim, Mimi Callais, and Candace Lemay and husband Christopher; and son, Nathan Callais. He had eight grandchildren. Also survived by his father, Floyd J. Callais Sr.; stepmother, Ruth Callais; and sister, Phylis Callais. Preceded in death by his mother, Clara Nell Callais. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the wake on Thursday, June 30, at Woodland Park Baptist Church from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Viewing at the church on Friday, July 1, from 9 a.m. until service at 11 a.m. Pallbearers are Nathan Callais, David Schlaudecker, Ben Branch, Brian Branch, Tim Andrews, Chris Lemay, David Robertson and Henry Martin. Honorary pallbearers are Brennan and Bryce Zahn. She was 75, a native of Saucier, Miss., and a resident of Amite. Visitation at McKneely Funeral Home, Amite, on Saturday, Aug. 4, from 10 a.m. until religious service at 4 p.m., conducted by Brother Wayne Miley. Interment in Arcola-Roseland Cemetery, Arcola. She is survived by her five daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Donald Smith, of Amite, Brenda and Michael Arnone, of Roseland, Glenda and Troy Cox and Cindy and Randy Blair, all of Amite, and Viola and William Hayden, of Albany; three sons; two stepdaughters, Leslie and Arlene; sister, Madean McCallister, of Denham Springs; brother, Jimmy Gilliland, of Kentwood; 20 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; and dear friends, Audrey Lambert and Bessie Hayden. Preceded in death by her parents, James and Cora Gilliland; brother, Jack Gilliland; and a stepdaughter and stepson.
