She was 83 and a native of Hammond. Visiting at Charlet Funeral Home Inc., Zachary, from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday. Visiting at the funeral home from 11 a.m. until religious services at 2 p.m. Tuesday, conducted by the Rev. Bill Bolton. Burial in Greenoaks Memorial Park. Survived by three daughters and sons- in-law, Eva M. and O.J. Duplessis, Reigh C. and Wesley Ritchie and Shirley and Basil Alexander, all of Baker; a son and daughter-in-law, Ray and Nancy Tassin Callender, Ventress; grandchildren, Audrey L. Duplessis, Johnny Sue Powell, Keith and Scott Duplessis, Sherry Epperson, Kim R. McLin, James W. "Rocky" Ritchie, Catherine "Cathy" Kent, Basil Alexander Jr., Shawndell Filbert, and David and Eva Cox Callender; and 21 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Warren Ray "Buster" Callender; parents, Hollis H. and Eva Hughes Sterling; a sister, Carmen Edwards; and a grandson, Michael W. Ritchie. Pallbearers will be grandsons, Keith Duplessis, Basil Alexander, Rocky Ritchie, Butch McLin, Doug Epperson and Tommy and Lance Kent. Honorary pallbearers are Scott Duplessis, Mike Ritchie, Rick Powell, Mike Filbert and David Callender. She was a member of Faith Baptist Church, Baker. *************************************************************************** Obituary published in The Hammond Daily Star: 2/8/2010 CALLENDER, SHIRLEY PRITCHARD Shirley Pritchard Callender, 75, of Denham Springs, passed away Thursday, Feb. 4, 2010, at Baton Rouge General Medical Center-Bluebonnet. She was a native of Ponchatoula. Visitation at Seale Funeral Home, Denham Springs, on Monday, Feb. 8, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Visitation resumes at the funeral home chapel on Tuesday, Feb. 9, from 9 a.m. until the religious service at 11 a.m., officiated by her minister, the Rev. Bob Diech, of First United Methodist Church of Denham Springs. Burial immediately following at Evergreen Memorial Park. She was a loving, warm, kind and generous person who touched the lives of many in a very deep and special way. She was a devoted mother, maw maw, sister, aunt and friend. She spent many hours volunteering at her beloved church and treated the church members like an extension of her family. She is survived by her sons, Les and wife Nina Callender and Mark and wife Adrienne Callender; grandchildren, J. Blaine and wife Amanda, Katie, Lindsey, Clayton, Garrett and Andrew Callender; great-grandchild, Elliott; an expected great-grandchild, Jackson Callender; sister, Faye and husband Ed Morrison; brother, Merlin, and wife Sandy Pritchard; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and close friends, all of whom she loved dearly. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy Callender; and parents, Kevlin "Ted" and Ruby Thomas Pritchard. The family would like to extend our great appreciation to her many health- care providers, with a special thanks to Dr. William Cassidy and Dr. Douglas Say for their years of care and concern.
