A retired former area production manager for Gulf Oil Co. and a resident of Slidell since 1973, he passed away Sunday, Nov. 7, 2010, at the age of 84. He was a native of Ingleside, Miss., and preceded in death by his wonderful parents, J.P. and Erma Campbell, who were of Roxie, Miss., and by his loving and devoted wife for 55 years, Gail Whitney Campbell, who was formerly of Baton Rouge. After graduating from Tallulah High School in 1944, John enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He graduated from LSU with a bachelor of science degree in petroleum engineering in 1950 and he and Gail were married a year later. The next 34 years were spent working for several companies in various states, the past 22 were with Gulf Oil. After retiring in 1985, he and Gail began a more relaxed lifestyle enjoying family, friends, attending and serving First United Methodist Church and traveling. Their favorite trips were to LSU football games, at home and away. She was born May 9, 1927 in Charlotte, North Carolina to Robert Lee and Marguerite Bondurant Cain. She grew up in Little Rock, Arkansas and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Dietetics from the University of Tennessee in 1949, where she was a member of Chi Omega sorority. She later obtained a Masters Degree in Counseling from Louisiana Tech University. She married James Donald Campbell in 1954 and they had four children, Cathy, Carol, Jim, and Martha. In addition to Little Rock, they lived for a time in El Dorado and Pine Bluff, as well as Yazoo City, Mississippi, and in Amite, Louisiana. Margaret Ane was a talented artist and calligrapher, and enjoyed life in Amite, where, in his retirement, her husband was priest of the Church of the Incarnation Episcopalian Church. She loved the Lord, her family, and her Anglican Fellowship of Prayer. Don and Margaret Ane moved back to Little Rock in 2010 to be near their daughter, Martha, who was at her side as she passed into eternal life. Mrs. Campbell is survived by her husband of 56 years, Don; her four children, eight grandchildren, and one great grandchild. A resident and native of Ponchatoula, he died on Friday, Jan. 27, 2006, at North Oaks Medical Center in Hammond. He was 48. Visiting at The Mission Church in Hammond on Sunday, Jan. 29, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. and on Monday, Jan. 30, from noon until religious service at 2 p.m. Interment in Parklawn Memorial Gardens. He is survived by his wife, Debe Campbell, Ponchatoula; two sons, Jonathan Campbell and Aaron Campbell, both of Ponchatoula; a daughter, Katy Campbell, Ponchatoula; and two brothers, Harry Campbell Jr., Safety Harbor, Fla., and Richard Campbell, North Bend, Wash.
