Funeral service will be held Monday, Nov. 15, 2004, at 11 a.m. at St. Landry Catholic Church, Opelousas, for Deacon Carlo A. Cannatella. Concelebrants will be the Rev. Gary Schexnayder, homilist, and the Rev. Harold Trahan, eulogist, among others. A wake and rosary service was at the church at 7 p.m. Sunday, followed by visitation until 10 p.m. Visitation at the church after 8 a.m. Monday. Burial in Bellevue Memorial Park, Opelousas. At age 79, he died Friday, Nov. 12, 2004, at 7 p.m. at Opelousas General Health System. Deacon Cannatella, a retired pharmacist, native of Bayou Rouge and graduate of Melville High School, attended Maryknoll Seminary in New Orleans, Loyola Pharmacal School and graduated from the University of Colorado with a degree in pharmacy and physiology. He and his wife owned and operated the Modern Drug Store in Opelousas for 16 years and he also worked for Service Drugs. He was ordained in 1980 in the second class as a deacon by Bishop Gerald Frey. He served St. Landry Catholic Church faithfully and for 24 years, he taught liturgy and Scripture. He is survived by his wife, Mildred "Millie" Vidrine Cannatella of Opelousas; son, David Cannatella of Austin, Texas; four daughters, Mrs. Steven (Carla) Rives of Sugartown, Texas, Mrs. Keith (Anne) Harris of Orlando, Fla., Mrs. Mary Dennis of Opelousas, and Mrs. Jay (Bettina) Stansbury of Ponchatoula; two brothers, Pete Cannatella of Melville and Frank Cannatella of Port Neches, Texas; four sisters, Katie Vanchiere and Rosie Cannatella, both of Melville, Elizabeth Polle of Lafayette and Martha Burt of Houston; and 10 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles V. and Mathilde Gulino Cannatella; a brother, Joseph Cannatella; and two sisters, Jennie Cannatella and Fena Savage. Pallbearers will be Billy Pitre, Sal Diesi, Terri Mengarelli, Paul Medus, Jay DeRanger, Dennis Reed, Kurt Kellerman, Pete Cannatella, Frank Cannatella and Donnie Burt. Honorary pallbearers are Betty Wolfe, Bea Beaugh, Linda Andrepont, Carolyn Cropper, Pat Burleigh and Grace Tromblay. Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home, Opelousas, is in charge of arrangements. *************************************************************************** Obituary published in The Advocate (Baton Rouge): 12/20/2009 CANNATELLA, MILDRED VIDRINE A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Mrs. Mildred Vidrine Cannatella, 84, on Monday, Dec. 21, at 10 a.m. in St. Landry Catholic Church, Opelousas, followed by interment in the Bellevue Memorial Park Cemetery in Opelousas. Monsignor Robert Romero will celebrate the Mass. Mildred Vidrine Cannatella died on Thursday, Dec. 17, 2009, three days shy of her 85th birthday. She passed away at Opelousas General Hospital after a three-week illness. A native of Eunice, she made her home in Opelousas for the last 56 years where she and her husband raised five children. A loving and devoted wife, she worked side by side for more than 25 years with her husband, Carlo Cannatella, who preceded her in death. Mrs. Cannatella was a longtime member of the St. Landry Catholic Church, where she served as a Eucharistic minister. She is survived by a son, David Cannatella, of Austin, Texas; four daughters, Carla and husband Stephen Rives, of Sugarland, Texas, Anne and husband Keith Harris, of Clermont, Fla., Mary Dennis, of Opelousas, and Bettina and husband Jay Stansbury, of Ponchatoula; a sister, Patricia Manuel, of Eunice; and 10 grandchildren, Geoffrey Harris, Maria, Elizabeth and David Rives, Laura, Sarah, Francis and David Dennis, and Christopher and Katie Stansbury. Mrs. Cannatella was preceded in death by her parents, Milton Pierre Vidrine and Hilda Beaugh Vidrine; and two brothers, Eric Vidrine and Rivers Vidrine. Memorial donations may be made to St. Landry Catholic Church or the American Heart Association . Visiting hours will be observed at Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home of Opelousas on Sunday, Dec. 20, from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m., with a rosary service at 6:30 p.m. Visiting hours reopen on Monday, Dec. 21, at 8 a.m. until time of service.
