"I've run hard to the finish, believed in my Lord, Jesus Christ all the way." 1 Timothy 4:7. S.J. age 69, died at his Baton Rouge home Friday, April 22, 2005. He was a resident of Baton Rouge and a native of Independence. He was born May 18, 1935, and died of Shy, Drager Syndrome. He was a longtime member of the Electrical Union Local 995, a supervisor at the Department of Public Safety and a member and usher for 28 years at St. Jean Vianney Catholic Church. He spent three decades playing drums and trumpet in the regional jazz band, "The Jazz Kings," served in the U.S. Army Medical Corps Unit-MASH, in Frankfurt, Germany. S.J. taught at the Baton Rouge Vocational School for many years and really enjoyed when the students he had taught came up to him at functions and shared with him how much they appreciated his help in their lives. Visitation was at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday, April 24. Visitation will reopen in the chapel Monday, April 25, from 9 a.m. until religious service at 11 a.m., conducted by the Rev. Donald Blanchard and the Rev. Louis Boyd, associate pastor of Florida Boulevard Baptist Church. Interment in Greenoaks Memorial Park. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Caputa; two sons and daughters-in-law, Dean and Liz Caputa, Baton Rouge, and Randy and Wendy Caputa, Germantown, Tenn.; daughter, Dana Jo Caputa, Little Rock, Ark.; a sister, Francis Caputa DiSalvo, Harahan; two beautiful granddaughters, Casey and Tara Caputa, both of Germantown; two stepdaughters, Debra Lynn Stanley and Karen Ann LeClere; and eight step- grandchildren, Brandon, Elise, Chase and Lauren Stanley, Jacob Gunter and Davey, Joshua and Benjamin LeClere. He was preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin and Mary Caputa; and a sister, Josie Caputa Anzalone, formerly of Independence. Pallbearers will be Gene Anzalone, Jimmy Anzalone, Timmy Anzalone, Philip DiSalvo Jr., Joseph Giammalva, Jacob Gunter, David LeClere and David Stanley. Honorary pallbearers are Liney Guidry, Percy Jarreau, Ravis Mire, Marvin O'Neal, Buddy Vutera, Joe Lamonica, Ronnie Toomer and Louis Ruffino. Special thanks to Karol Guidry, Pam French, Marie Vutera, Priscilla Mires, Loraine Jarreau and Amy Files, who brought communion to S.J. each Sunday.
